Sean Gunn, James Gunn's brother, was recently cast as Maxwell Lord in the new DCU.
Shazam! actor Zachary Levi shares his thoughts on James Gunn's DC Universe, which includes some familiar DCEU stars from previous movies and TV shows. As Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom prepares to hit theaters, it marks the conclusion of the DCEU that began with Zack Snyder's Man of Steel in 2013. However, as this continuity comes to an end, Gunn and Peter Safran are gearing up for their new DC Universe at DC Studios.
In a recent interview with Comic Book, Levi discussed the casting of DCEU actors in new roles in Gunn's DC Universe and whether he would be interested in being cast in a new role. Although initially unsure about playing a different character, Levi gave a candid response:
What are you referring to as the new character? [Levi listens to the explanation of Jason Momoa being rumored to play someone else while Sean Gunn has been cast as Maxwell Lord.] But Sean was never established in the DC Universe. I mean he has played Marvel characters, but this is his first DC character... [Interviewer explains his roles in The Suicide Squad.] Oh, in The Suicide Squad, but those are kind of more like cameos, I don't know. Listen, when you’re the brother of the guy who runs DC, I guess you get to play whoever you want. As far as Jason though... Are you referring to Lobo? The only character I have heard rumored was that Jason really wanted to play Lobo, but I don't think that's happening. I don't know, maybe he will!

The DCEU's timeline may be about to be rebooted in the DC Universe, but here's how to watch the DCEU in release order or chronological order.
Which DCEU Actors Are Back For James Gunn's DC Universe?
DCEU actors are set to return as the same characters in various projects. Viola Davis will reprise the role of Amanda Waller in her own spinoff show, Waller, airing on Max. John Cena will continue as Peacemaker in season 2, while Freddie Stroma's Vigilante is also set to return. Steve Agee's John Economos and Jennifer Holland's Emilia Harcourt are also slated to reappear in Waller and Creature Commandos, with unclear appearances in other DC Universe movies and/or TV shows.
Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, aka Blue Beetle, will continue in the DC Universe, with his solo movie loosely connected. Sean Gunn, who plays Weasel in Creature Commandos, will also voice G.I. Robot and play Maxwell Lord in both animation and live-action. Nathan Fillion, known for playing T.D.K. in the DCEU, will take on the role of Guy Gardner, aka Green Lantern, in Superman: Legacy.
Speculation abounds regarding whether Momoa will portray Lobo in Gunn's DC Universe, but DC Studios has yet to confirm or deny this. Additionally, there is uncertainty about Margot Robbie's return as Harley Quinn, as it has not been definitively stated whether her role is finished. Time will reveal whether Gunn will bring back other DCEU veterans for roles in the new continuity, while also focusing on introducing new talent to the DC Universe. Hopefully, by 2024, more information will be available about the potential participation of other DCEU actors in the new DC Universe.

As a fan of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), I am excited about the potential for some of the actors from previous movies and TV shows to join James Gunn's new DC Universe. It's great to hear that Viola Davis, John Cena, Freddie Stroma, Steve Agee, and Jennifer Holland will be reprising their roles in various projects. I'm also looking forward to seeing Xolo Maridueña continue as Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle, and Sean Gunn taking on the roles of Weasel, G.I. Robot, and Maxwell Lord. Nathan Fillion's casting as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern is also an exciting prospect.
However, I am disappointed that there is still uncertainty about whether Jason Momoa will join the new DC Universe as Lobo, and whether Margot Robbie will return as Harley Quinn. These are two of the most popular characters from the DCEU, and it would be a shame if they were not included in the new continuity. I hope that Gunn and DC Studios will be able to work things out with these actors and bring them back for future projects. Overall, I am optimistic about the future of the DC Universe and look forward to seeing how Gunn and his team build upon the foundation that has been laid by previous DCEU movies and TV shows.
