The game was originally planned to launch on PlayStation and Xbox in November 2022. However, Sega faced development challenges and decided to postpone the console versions indefinitely just one month before their intended release dates. Finally, on August 22, the strategy game was released on the last two console generations, coinciding with its launch on Xbox Game Pass.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers have access to the base version of Humankind, which sells for $49.99. In addition, there are DLCs available such as Cultures of Africa and Cultures of Latin America, priced at $8.99 each. Xbox Game Pass members can save $0.90 on each DLC purchase. The Digital Deluxe Bonus, originally priced at $10.49, is now available to Microsoft's subscribers for $9.44. This bonus includes the Notre-Dame DLC, a PDF version of the Humankind unit and tech tree poster, and the game's digital soundtrack.

Released in 2021, the PC version of Humankind received positive reviews, with a current aggregate score of 77 on Metacritic.
