Microsoft has recently announced that some of the titles showcased during the May 2023 PlayStation event will also be available on Xbox. This news came just as Sony's broadcast came to an end, which gave viewers a sneak peek at Marvel's Spider-Man 2 gameplay and many other exciting things.
Although the event focused mainly on exclusive titles, several games that were showcased at the May 24 event were already rumored to be coming to both Xbox and PC. Some trailers even mentioned the availability of the game on PC, as seen with the highly anticipated Helldivers 2 announcement. However, other promotions were less clear. For instance, the teaser for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater only indicated that it was "coming to PS5," leaving fans a bit confused.
Microsoft later clarified that Metal Gear Solid Delta and almost a dozen other titles showcased at the May 24 PlayStation Showcase will also be released for Xbox. In a tweet, the company shared an image featuring around one-third of the PlayStation Showcase 2023 titles, all of which are also heading to Xbox consoles. The tweet, which playfully acknowledges recent criticisms from fans, highlights that the PS5 still lacks exclusives for a system that is approaching its third anniversary.
PlayStation Showcase 2023 Games Also Coming to Xbox.
Alan Wake 2, Assassin's Creed Mirage, Cat Quest: Pirates of the Purribean, Dragon's Dogma 2, Ghostrunner 2, Immortals of Aveum, Marathon, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Neva, Teardown, The Plucky Squire, and The Talos Principle 2 are some of the highly anticipated games that gamers are looking forward to playing.
Microsoft's contemporary publishing strategy is focused on ecosystem growth, treating PC, Xbox consoles, and Xbox Cloud Gaming platforms equally. This approach has made multi-platform availability the default option for Microsoft's games. In contrast, Sony continues to rely heavily on console exclusives to maintain its market share.
However, it's worth noting that even though Sony acquired Bungie in July 2022 for a whopping $3.6 billion, the extraction shooter Marathon from Bungie will also be available on Xbox. This is likely due to the fact that development of the game was already well underway before the acquisition. As for the rest of the newly shared list from Microsoft, it's not surprising that it mostly consists of indies, sequels to non-exclusive games, and new installments in historically multi-platform series such as Assassin's Creed Mirage, Dragon's Dogma 2, Alan Wake 2, Ghostrunner 2, and The Talos Principle 2. While it's still unclear whether many of these titles will also be available on the PS5, Microsoft's publishing strategy suggests that the upcoming Xbox Showcase will be centered on multi-platform games. Don't miss the next Xbox Showcase on June 11 at 10am PST.
