Xbox Game Pass introduces Like a Dragon: Ishin today, offering fans a spin-off from the popular Yakuza/Like a Dragon franchise. This addition comes prior to the inclusion of Like a Dragon Gaiden as a day-one Xbox Game Pass game in November, and the arrival of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth in 2024.
Like a Dragon: Ishin serves as a standalone installment set in the Bakumatsu period of the Late Edo era (around the 1850s and 1860s). Players assume the role of Sakamoto Ryoma, a character modeled after Kiryu, as he challenges the societal norms of his land, becomes embroiled in a Tosa coup d'etat, seeks vengeance for his father figure's murder, and works undercover with the Shinsengumi, whose appearances are also inspired by Like a Dragon characters such as Majima.
Though not viewed as mandatory by many due to it being a spin-off, Like a Dragon: Ishin remains a commendable title that every fan should consider exploring—especially those with an Xbox Game Pass subscription. Moreover, the game has garnered positive reviews, further highlighting its commitment to upholding the legacy of the franchise. According to OpenCritic, a review aggregate site, the title boasts an impressive Top Critic Average of 81, with 86% of critics recommending it, thus earning a "Strong" rating. In our own Like a Dragon: Ishin review, we found the game to be a delightful experience for numerous reasons. It boasts a captivating storyline centered around revenge and identity, combat mechanics that are satisfying despite their slightly dated nature, and a vibrant setting brimming with enjoyable activities.
Xbox Game Pass continuously introduces new games and has recently announced its upcoming additions for this month. In addition to the previously confirmed titles such as Cities Skylines 2, Jusant, and Headbangers: Rhythm Royale, Xbox Game Pass will also include Dead Space Remake on October 26, along with a few other games. It's worth noting that the addition of Dead Space Remake is especially exciting for the service, as it has instantly become highly appreciated and is a perfect fit for the Halloween season.
Moreover, this year PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass subscribers will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of Halloween-themed games. Both PS Plus Extra and Premium will offer numerous horror or Halloween-related games throughout the month. Interestingly, the selection of free games for PS Plus includes Callisto Protocol, which serves as a spiritual successor to Dead Space.
Xbox Game Pass subscribers get a handful of games every month.
