Although Xbox Game Pass was a little late to the start of the new year last year, it has come out swinging with January 2024, releasing a new game today and revealing 7 more coming throughout the first half of the month. Today's addition is Close to the Sun, a game which wears its BioShock inspirations on its sleeves. Its art design and worldbuilding are very similar. In Close to the Sun, players take on the role of journalist Rose Archer sets out to find her sister aboard the Helios, a purported haven for the greatest scientific minds in the world turned sinister.
Prior to this announcement, Xbox Game Pass only had two games confirmed for January 2024. Turnip Boy Robs a Bank hits the service on January 18, likely featuring gameplay similar to the last Turnip Boy title which means a mash up of roguelike and classic Zelda gameplay. The second game is Go Mecha Ball, joining on January 25, and it is an interesting genre mix of roguelike gameplay, twin-stick shooting, and pinball-style physics.
New Game Titles and Descriptions
Joining the three aforementioned titles this month is Hell Let Loose, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Figment, We Happy Few, Resident Evil 2, Those Who Remain, and Super Mega Baseball 4 (the latter is available from EA Play via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate). Obviously there are some major titles here that need no introduction, such as Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Resident Evil 2, but the rest are up to par as well. Hell Let Loose is a large-scale realistic first-person shooter set in World War 2, and Figment is an action-adventure game where players must find lost courage amid a surreal, whimsical, and multi-layered universe.

Exciting Prospects for Xbox Game Pass
All in all, Xbox Game Pass appears to be kicking off the new year with a bang, and it sounds like more information could be coming. Fans know, of course, that there should be a second wave of games coming midway through the month, but there are also rumors of a new Xbox Direct taking place sometime this month, per Pure Xbox. If so, fans can expect news on Xbox exclusives like Avowed, but the rumors also suggest that there could be a shadow-drop akin to Hi-Fi Rush last year.
Either way, a new year means new games including new releases and additions to Xbox Game Pass. If this wave is any indication, it's going to be a great year.
