Xbox's latest Twitter post features a sparkling trail and nostalgic music leading to a monitor displaying the Xbox Games Showcase, hinting at the possibility of Fable's appearance. Fable, a fan-favorite fantasy RPG and one of Xbox's cornerstone IPs, has not had a new game release in over a decade. However, at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2020, Microsoft confirmed that Playground Games was developing a new Fable game, described as a "new beginning" for the franchise. While information has been scarce since the announcement, it appears that fans can expect to receive more updates at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase.
The teaser below strongly suggests that the upcoming Xbox IP is, in fact, Fable. The music used is taken directly from previous Fable games, but the real giveaway is the glitter trail. Fans of the classic titles will remember following this type of trail as a waypoint system, which is exactly what is depicted in the video. It's safe to say that many fans would be disappointed if the game turned out to be anything other than Fable.
For those eagerly awaiting news about Fable, mark your calendars for the Xbox Games Showcase on June 11 at 10 am PT/1 pm ET. This event will feature at least three major Xbox exclusives, including Forza Motorsport, and will be followed immediately by an in-depth look at Bethesda Game Studios' highly anticipated sci-fi RPG Starfield. While Starfield is confirmed to get a deep dive, it remains to be seen what Fable will showcase.
However, it's important to keep expectations in check and not get swept up in the excitement. It would be disappointing if Fable was teased during the Xbox Games Showcase only to be pulled, as that would take away from what should be a momentous occasion for Xbox. Unfortunately, this has happened before. In 2021, Xbox Games Publishing tweeted about something special happening and even mentioned Fable Anniversary, but later retracted the statement when fans expected news about the game. Hopefully, history won't repeat itself and fans can anticipate exciting developments for Fable. For now, we'll just have to wait and see. The good news is that the game is currently in development.
