Police in Brazil have arrested a woman who they believe took a deceased man, claiming to be her uncle, to a bank in order to withdraw a loan amounting to four figures.
The incident, captured on camera, has gained attention across the country after circulating widely on social media. The footage shows the woman in a Rio de Janeiro branch of Itau Bank, assisting the elderly man in a wheelchair by holding up his head and guiding his hand to hold a pen.
The police stated that she was trying to get a loan for $3,000, which the bank had already approved. However, she still needed the elderly man's approval.
In the video recorded by a bank attendant, the elderly man appears unresponsive. His arm hangs limply and his head keeps drooping as she speaks to him.
"Uncle, are you paying attention?" she asks. "You have to sign. If you don't sign, it won't work. I can't sign for you, it has to be you. I'll do what I can."
"Please sign it so I don't have to deal with the hassle of going to the registry office. I can't handle it anymore," the woman pleads.
At that point, one of the bank attendants says, “I think he isn’t feeling well,” and a second attendant agrees.

Rio de Janeiro Civil police chief Fabio Luis Souza mentioned that the bank attendants decided to call an ambulance. When the paramedics arrived, they determined that the man had already been dead for a few hours and had likely passed away before arriving at the bank.
Authorities are currently working to determine the connection between the woman and the deceased man.
CNN Brasil's affiliate reported that the family's lawyer disagreed with the police's version of events. The lawyer stated that the man arrived at the bank alive and the woman is extremely shaken and taking medication.
Authorities are currently looking into the case, but no charges have been filed yet.
