Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has already generated a great deal of excitement, and the recently released gameplay footage suggests that it may well exceed expectations. The May 24 PlayStation showcase featured a number of exciting projects, including a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, a new entry in Bungie's Marathon series, and a preview of Dragon's Dogma 2. The showcase concluded with an in-depth look at the highly anticipated PS5 title centered around Marvel's beloved web-slinging hero. The trailer took some interesting and unexpected turns, as Peter Parker was shown donning the Venom symbiote and it appeared to be taking a toll on him. Fans may recall that the after-credits scene of the first game hinted at Harry Osborn's involvement with something resembling the symbiote, and the way Venom was integrated in the trailer suggests that theories about Harry's condition are easily conjured.
The Symbiote is Teased in Spider-Man 2018
The absence of the black Venom attire in 2018's Spider-Man was noticeable, but the post-credits scene shed some light on a possible reason. In the scene, Norman Osborn assures his son Harry that he will find a cure for his defect, and a black substance emitting from Harry's body appears on screen, which resembles the symbiote. In Sony's May PlayStation showcase, it was surprising to see Peter Parker in control of the symbiote, which was previously hinted to be wrapped around a different character. It suggests that Harry Osborn may have a significant role to play, and that both characters may use the symbiote for different reasons. The potential inclusion of Eddie Brock in the story adds another intriguing element to the already exciting narrative.
Harry Osborn's Presence Needs to be Felt
With an array of beloved characters already established in the first installment of Marvel's Spider-Man, such as Aunt May, MJ, Dr. Otto Octavius, and Miles Morales, the upcoming Spider-Man 2 has the chance to introduce new faces while also giving existing ones more time in the spotlight. While Norman Osborn had a memorable but minor role in the 2018 narrative, Harry Osborn was only mentioned a few times, with the main mission "Harry's Passion Project" serving as a way to incorporate some of his research labs into the game. However, Harry's significance in the Spider-Man universe cannot be ignored, and it will be crucial for Insomniac to give him the attention he deserves in the upcoming sequel. The post-credits scene from the first game hinted at Harry's possible involvement with the Venom symbiote, which has left fans eagerly anticipating how his character will fit into the expanded New York City and what surprises the game has in store.
