Insomniac Games Confirms: No Co-Op for Spider-Man 2

Insomniac Games, the developer behind Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, has recently clarified that the upcoming game will be a single-player experience. This announcement was made in response to a fan's inquiry on Twitter. The fan had brought up a recording of Miles Morales' voice actor, Nadji Jeter, from a Q&A session in 2022, which had suggested that the game would offer co-op gameplay.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was first introduced during the PlayStation Showcase in 2021, and since then, there has been little information released about the game. Sony has always been known for keeping tight-lipped when it comes to their flagship titles, and Spider-Man 2 was no exception. However, with the recent comments from the voice actor, fans had begun to speculate about the possibility of co-op gameplay. Insomniac's response to the fan's inquiry, however, has put these rumors to rest, leaving fans to wonder what other surprises the game may hold.

After Jeter’s recording was discovered, a Twitter user asked Insomniac if the game would feature co-op gameplay. Insomniac responded, "Nope! It is an epic single-player adventure." While the previous titles only had single-player gameplay, the trailer for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 showed both Peter Parker and Miles Morales facing off against Venom, who may be the game's main antagonist. However, given the history of these titles, Insomniac's statement may not be entirely accurate. Both Spider-Men have had their own standalone titles, but they could both be playable in this game, leading players to believe that co-op gameplay may still be a possibility.

On the other hand, some fans theorized that Jeter may have meant players would be able to switch between the two protagonists or have specific missions where they could play as both characters. Additionally, an August 2022 rumor claimed that Spider-Man 2 would have co-op gameplay. Combining this with Jeter's comments, many gamers believe that Insomniac is simply trying to salvage the situation.

The upcoming PlayStation Showcase on May 24 is highly anticipated by fans of Marvel's Spider-Man, as it is rumored to reveal more details about the game. One of the biggest questions on fans' minds is the true identity of Venom. While some speculate it could be Eddie Brock, others believe it may be Harry Osborn due to the secret ending in the previous game. Rumors have also circulated about other potential villains, such as Lizard and Kingpin, and the possibility of Peter Parker or Miles Morales merging with the Venom Symbiote. With the release date set for Fall 2023 on PlayStation 5, fans won't have to wait much longer for answers.
