A new rumor has surfaced about Insomniac Games' upcoming title, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, suggesting that the game may feature significant horror elements. This news comes as Insomniac has recently confirmed that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be a single-player game.
While the third installment in the Marvel's Spider-Man series does not yet have an official release date, it is expected to launch in late 2023, according to statements made by Sony. Additionally, the next PlayStation Showcase is just around the corner, which could mean that fans will finally receive a release date for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 at the event on May 24th.
Multiple fans have recently suggested that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will incorporate horror elements, based on in-person information shared by some of the game's voice cast. According to user nerdycollector209's comment on YouTuber Evan Filarca's latest video, Nadji Jeter, the voice of Miles Morales, allegedly recommended playing the game with a headset and in the dark because Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is supposedly "a lot scarier" than its predecessors.
During Jeter's 2022 SacAnime Summer panel, he mentioned that Venom-like Symbiotes will be "everywhere" in the game. Filarca speculated that this implies Marvel's Spider-Man 2 might be a spiritual sequel to Activision's 2008 game Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, which also featured a plot centered on a large-scale Symbiote invasion. User kevinplantz12 responded to the video, saying, "I've been sworn to secrecy, but you're not far off," and adding that he heard similar information from both Jeter and Tony Todd, the voice of Venom in the upcoming game.
The possibility of a frightening Spider-Man game may not be too far-fetched for Insomniac's next project, despite the need for caution when considering claims made by online fans. Venom's appearance in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 hints at this potential direction, as the character has traditionally been one of Spider-Man's most terrifying nemeses.
Furthermore, both Jeter and Todd have a track record of unveiling information prematurely during their fan interactions. This was demonstrated in late March when Todd accidentally revealed that Insomniac's upcoming game is scheduled for release in September. Although the Spider-Man 2 voice actor attempted to downplay the leak, the damage was already done. While this does not confirm the recent rumor that the game will incorporate significant horror elements, it lends credibility to the source of the claim.
