Why Monster Hunter Enthusiasts Need to Save the Date for March 12

With a significant milestone on the horizon for the Monster Hunter franchise, Capcom hints at an important event set for March 12 that fans won't want to miss.

Monster Hunter fans should save the date for March 12, as Capcom has exciting plans to celebrate the series' 20th anniversary with a "special program" on that day. While there won't be any new game announcements, it's still something that fans won't want to miss.

The franchise officially turns 20 on March 11, the day the first Monster Hunter game was released on the PlayStation 2 in Japan back in 2004. Despite receiving mixed reviews initially, the game has garnered a dedicated following over the years. Its standout feature includes memorable battles and an addictive gameplay loop that has earned it a reputation as one of the toughest RPGs on the PS2.

The Monster Hunter 20th Anniversary Event is scheduled to take place on March 20 at 7am ET / 1pm CET.

The broadcast is expected to mainly focus on merchandise and walk-in events. However, there may still be some game-related announcements, such as in-game Monster Hunter anniversary events, similar to what Capcom did for the franchise's 15th anniversary. If these promos are included in the company's plans, they will likely involve Monster Hunter Now, Niantic's geolocation-based mobile game released for Android and iOS devices in September.

This special program will not include any new game announcements or updates on Monster Hunter Wilds.

Capcom Launches Monster Hunter Steam Sale Ahead of Series Anniversary Event

Fans of the series can enjoy great discounts before the March 12 event. Capcom has released a new anniversary bundle on Steam, offering a 70% discount on three Monster Hunter games and two expansions. The bundle includes Monster Hunter: World, Rise, and MH Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, along with the Iceborne expansion for MH: World and Rise's Sunbreak DLC. The Steam sale ends on March 21.

Although the upcoming anniversary broadcast may not have major game announcements, it is still a significant event. Capcom has been preparing for Monster Hunter's 20th anniversary since at least 2021, as confirmed by the series' producer, Ryozo Tsujimoto.
