Whitney Cummings is expecting to welcome a new addition to her family. The 40-year-old comedian revealed her pregnancy through a heartfelt Instagram post on Tuesday, June 20. Sharing a collection of photos showing her enjoying playful moments with her dog in a pool, she wrote, "In these pictures, I am pregnant. And there is a little baby growing inside me too." Cummings humorously added, "A human pup will be joining us in December. Don't worry, all your scheduled dates in 2023 are still happening, although I may stumble a few times."
Cummings, known for her openness about freezing her eggs, was captured in the snaps wearing a purple tank top and gray shorts, standing in the water with her dog. The photos captured her throwing a ball for her pup to catch. Additionally, she shared a sonogram of her baby in the slideshow. Earlier this year, during an interview on the Today show, the author of "I’m Fine … And Other Lies" revealed her desire to have a baby within the year, despite feeling like she had plenty of time.
Courtesy of Whitney Cummings/Instagram, the comedian revealed that she had frozen her eggs, humorously stating that they were in a more desirable location than her own residence. She expressed her desire to have them retrieved before the sea level rises and potentially floods the area. Cummings had initially planned to attempt pregnancy in the current year.
During her pregnancy announcement, The Female Brain star chose not to disclose the identity of her child's father. Prior to this, she was in a public relationship with veterinarian Alex Barnes, whom she started dating in July 2021. Reflecting on how they met, the 2 Broke Girls creator shared an unfortunate incident during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. She explained that while fostering a dog, it attacked one of her other dogs, resulting in the small dog's eyes popping out. She had to quickly rush to the veterinarian for emergency care.
During the height of the coronavirus lockdown, Cummings faced difficulties gaining access to the building due to strict safety protocols. However, Barnes, aged 33, eventually came to her aid and assisted with the injured animal. Cummings vividly remembers desperately knocking on the door of the veterinarian's office, only to be denied entry. Thankfully, Barnes recognized her and stepped in to provide the necessary help.
As their relationship grew deeper, Cummings playfully mentioned during a stand-up performance in the fall of 2021 that she and her partner were already considering the next level of commitment.
"I have an exciting revelation to share with all of you today, something I've never disclosed before, a secret unknown to anyone," she declared to the enthusiastic crowd. "I am currently in a relationship, and what's even more unconventional is that I am eager to take the initiative and propose to my partner. You see, at the age of 39, I simply cannot wait around for him to orchestrate an elaborate proposal like some kind of treasure hunt. So, Alex, will you grant me the privilege of making me the happiest woman alive by allowing me to purchase my own dream engagement ring, since it seems to be beyond your means?"
