Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 5 recap
In Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 5, Evil Morty shows up and helps our Rick to finally get his revenge on Rick Prime – by brutally beating him to death.
The episode starts with a densely packed scene, giving us a flashback of Evil Morty's conquest of The Citadel. After leaving Rick's multiverse, he enters a perilous new one.
Despite creating a kind of paradise for himself, Evil Morty's pristine new abode begins to deteriorate. Meanwhile, our Rick, known as Rick C-137, is occupied with "fracking" the Central Finite Curve alongside regular Morty. Their goal is to finally track down Rick Prime.
Evil Morty, seemingly detached from the situation, assists Rick in devising a solution to locate the genuine Rick Prime amidst his decoys. During their argument, Morty inadvertently eliminates one of the decoys, resulting in an explosion that transforms into a black substance engulfing the three of them.
Upon entering the trap, they discover a multitude of different Ricks, including versions resembling Indiana Jones and Bond, all of whom have been attempting to track down Rick Prime. Displayed on a screen, a pre-recorded message from the supervillain elucidates that he has successfully eradicated all iterations of Rick's wife, Diane, across various dimensions. This was made possible by employing a fearsome weapon known as the Omega Device, capable of eliminating all versions of a targeted individual.
Rick and Evil Morty manage to evade the trap by merging their portal guns and utilizing the goo from the decoy. All Mortys and Rick proceed to Rick Prime's headquarters, where Rick Prime activates the Omega Device on Slow Mobius. As expected, every Slow Mobius from every alternate universe vanishes.
Adult Swim
In what has been hailed as one of the series' most thrilling action sequences, Rick and Rick Prime engage in a fierce fight. Eventually, Rick Prime confronts our Morty, his own grandson from their home planet, after overpowering Rick. However, just as Rick Prime appears to have the upper hand against the trio, we discover that it is actually Evil Morty who has deceived them by swapping places with our regular Morty and wearing an eyepatch. Evil Morty gains the upper hand, restraining Rick Prime and granting Rick the opportunity to finally seek revenge. In a brutal and savage manner, Rick delivers a fatal blow, punching Rick Prime to his demise.
After emerging soaked in blood, Evil Morty exposes that although he has deactivated the Omega Device, he possesses its technological capabilities and can terminate the Rick experiment at any moment. When Morty questions why he hasn't done so, Evil Morty responds, "Using a weapon like this doesn't ensure solitude. Do you think I want a horde of resentful Summers pursuing me?"
The concluding scene circles back to Season 1 Episode 6, as Rick and Morty inter their lifeless bodies, assuming their roles while the somber melody of Mazzy Star's "Look on Down From the Bridge" sets the mood.
In Season 7 Episode 5, this song is played while Rick attempts to adjust to a regular life again, after successfully finding and eliminating his enemy. However, like in any revenge story, the resolution doesn't provide the satisfaction he expected.
