Riverdale's series finale timeline has been hinted at by one of the show's stars. The popular CW series, known for its dark reinterpretation of beloved Archie Comics characters, will come to an end in its currently airing seventh season. Interestingly, the entire season has been set in the 1950s, following a time-warp twist at the end of season six. In a recent interview with Decider, Mädchen Amick, who portrays Betty's mother Alice, revealed that the finale will continue to take place in the 1950s. However, she also suggested that there will be glimpses of characters in "different dimensions," adding an intriguing layer to the closure that viewers can expect.
I don’t know if I should answer it. [pause] No, we don’t get out of the 1950s. So I guess maybe that is a big spoiler. I will say you do experience the characters in different… dimensions, that you get to see a lot of closures that are outside of the 1950s. I can tease it that way. I think that’s saying enough.
What Could The Other Dimensions Be in the Riverdale Finale?
I am uncertain about responding to it. [pause] Regrettably, we are still stuck in the 1950s. Thus, I suppose that revelation might be a significant spoiler. Nevertheless, I can share that you will encounter the characters in alternate... realms and witness numerous resolutions beyond the confines of the 1950s. This brief hint should suffice. With so many unexpected turns in the plot of Riverdale, these hints about alternate versions of the characters and their storylines could lead to endless possibilities. It seems that Amick's tease points towards the concept of a multiverse, a popular narrative tool in modern pop culture, particularly in superhero movies. Notable recent examples that have delved into the idea of multiverses include Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, The Flash 2023, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The alternate "dimensions" are likely to be portrayed through different versions of the Archie characters. This has already been shown in the current 1950s storyline, which pays homage to the original comic book era when the characters depicted a pristine version of American society. In the finale, the show has the potential to bring to life various universes from the comics, offering a range of options for adaptation. Riverdale can choose from a plethora of comic storylines such as the zombie apocalypse-themed Afterlife with Archie (2013), the prehistoric one-shot Archie 1: The Dawn of Time, and the superhero-inspired Archie's Super Teens. Additionally, they can draw from other iterations of the Archie gang like the cartoon series The Archie Show and the live-action special Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again. What the show ultimately chooses to do remains uncertain, but considering its penchant for outlandish storylines, it is expected that they will go all out to create a mind-blowing spectacle.
