Vought's Secret Revealed: Gen V Confirms Seven Hero's Child as a Supernatural Surprise

Gen V reveals a shocking twist in The Boys: another Seven hero's child is a Vought supe Unravel the mysteries behind Translucent and Maverick's superpowers, and brace yourself for the consequences of Gen V's appearance on Hughie in Season 4

Warning: spoilers ahead for Gen V

Summary

Maverick, a character at Godolkin University, is believed to be Translucent's son and has inherited his father's abilities of having carbon-covered skin.

With Maverick's presence at the university, the chances of a potential conflict and revenge storyline between him and Hughie are significantly amplified in The Boys season 4.

While The Boys TV show on Amazon has primarily focused on Homelander's son, a new revelation in Gen V showcases the child of another Seven supe who is already gaining notoriety. The majority of Vought supes in The Boys are too busy attending parties and indulging in illicit substances to prioritize parenting. So far, the show has only dedicated narrative attention to Ryan Butcher, Homelander's son. However, it was revealed that Homelander himself is Soldier Boy's son, a result of Vought's Compound V experiments. Although Stormfront also had a family, they played a minor role in the story.

In Gen V, the college-set spinoff of The Boys, numerous young supes are introduced. In the first episode, when Jaz Sinclair's Marie Moreau enters Godolkin University, she encounters a captivating group of super-powered individuals. This group includes a girl with a lizard tongue, a few speedsters rushing to class, and an invisible resident assistant known as Maverick. While these hormone-fueled, partially intoxicated supes quickly pass by, Maverick holds more significance than meets the eye.

Gen V Confirms Translucent's Son Is A Vought Supe

During the funeral scene for Translucent in season 2 of The Boys, Homelander acknowledged the presence of the deceased's teenage son, referring to him as "Maverick." A significant connection arises when we discover that the RA at Godolkin University, also named "Maverick," possesses identical abilities to Translucent. It strongly suggests that this character is, indeed, Translucent's son from The Boys. The timeline aligns quite well, as Maverick's appearance in season 2 places him in his mid-teens, and given that Gen V occurs shortly after the conclusion of season 3, it is entirely plausible for him to be old enough to attend college.

Apart from his name and physical appearance, little else was revealed about young Maverick during Translucent's funeral scene in The Boys. The show did not suggest that Maverick possessed any superpowers himself, nor did it imply that he would follow in his father's footsteps at Vought. However, considering that Godolkin University serves as a training ground for Vought's future employees, Maverick's enrollment strongly suggests his future as a supe. As the son of a former member of The Seven, it is likely that Maverick faces high expectations, even if he is not currently ranked among Godolkin's top 10 students.

Translucent & Maverick's Supe Powers In The Boys Explained

Despite their seemingly invisible powers, Translucent and Maverick's gift is actually due to their carbon-covered skin. This unique trait not only bends light, rendering them invisible, but also provides them with a protective outer armor. However, Translucent learned the hard way that this armor only covers the outer surface. When Marie Moreau encounters Maverick in Gen V, she can only see his glasses and baseball cap, suggesting that he must be wandering the campus naked. This peculiar preference seems to have been inherited from his father, who had a reputation for strolling around Seven Tower in the buff, completely undetected.

While Translucent may have passed on some questionable habits to his son, Maverick's powers are not directly inherited genetically. It has been confirmed in The Boys that Ryan Butcher is the first-ever supe to be born naturally, without the assistance of Compound V injections like other supes. Hence, it can be assumed that Translucent sought Vought's permission to administer Compound V to Maverick when he was a child. Despite this, it is generally observed that Compound V grants children powers similar to those of their parents.

Maverick's Gen V Appearance Is Really Bad For Hughie In The Boys Season 4

Translucent met his demise in Season 1 of The Boys when he fell victim to a strategically placed stick of dynamite that was detonated by Starlight's boyfriend, Hughie Campbell. In Season 2, Maverick was introduced, setting the stage for a potential revenge plot as he seeks retribution against Hughie for his father's death. However, it remains uncertain whether Maverick possesses the capability or desire to exact vengeance on his red-haired adversary.

The confirmation from Gen V that Maverick, a student at Godolkin University, is a superhuman-in-training with the same abilities as his late father, increases the likelihood of a feud between him and Hughie. If Maverick is not already aware, he wouldn't have to search far to uncover the truth behind Translucent's demise. Moreover, with Starlight and Hughie now enemies of Vought due to their actions in Season 3, Maverick may require only a gentle nudge in the right direction to put Hughie in grave danger, catching him completely off guard.

Gen V continues Friday on Amazon Prime Video.
