Discovering a Trader in Valheim allows players to purchase essential resources, making survival in the harsh Viking world much more manageable. However, the game fails to clearly explain how to earn coins, despite the necessity of accumulating a significant amount to acquire superior items. For instance, the fishing rod provides a reliable food source, while the Dverger Circlet functions as a flashlight.
As players advance through various biomes, such as the Meadows, the Black Forest, and beyond, they gain access to a wider range of purchasable items. Fortunately, there are numerous tips and tricks that can simplify the process of acquiring coins in Valheim.
7 Investigate Viking Graveyards
In the Meadows biome, players can discover Viking Graveyards, distinguished by stones arranged in the shape of a longship. This shape, when viewed from afar, can also resemble an eye outline.
Excavating around these burial grounds may reveal chests that hold valuable items such as Amber Pearls or a Silver Necklace, both of which hold significant value for Traders. Additionally, there is a possibility of uncovering extra Amber while digging. Players might also come across Bone Fragments, which have various uses in crafting and upgrading specific tools and equipment.
6 Loot Troll Caves
Troll Caves in the Black Forest are easily recognizable by the bone piles near the entrance. These caves can be scattered throughout the forest and, while they may appear daunting from the outside, typically only house up to three Trolls. Occasionally, the caves may be empty, providing an opportunity for players to freely explore.
Inside the Troll Caves, various treasures such as Amber, Pearls, Rubies, and coins are usually strewn across the floor. Given the ease with which these caves can be accessed, it is valuable to raid as many as possible in order to acquire useful tools that will aid in surviving the challenging Black Forest biome.
5 Skeletons Mean Treasure Is Nearby
Skeletons found in the Black Forest and Swamps often act as guardians for Burial Chambers and Ruined Towers. These locations are teeming with valuable items and treasures that can be sold for a considerable sum. Navigating through the Burial Chambers can be a bit challenging due to their maze-like layout. To ensure thorough exploration, it is recommended to choose one side upon entry and follow it all the way around.
Ruined Towers, on the other hand, are structures made of wood and stone, providing shelter for chests that players can loot. Although they typically hold fewer valuable treasures compared to the Burial Chambers, they are relatively easier to locate. Players only need to listen carefully for the eerie sounds of nearby skeletal groups.
4 Explore The Plains At Night
If players pass through the Meadows and Black Forest and reach the Plains biome, they will encounter several unique enemies that are easily found. These enemies drop coins upon defeat, with the most common being the Fulings.
Although Fulings are rare during the day, they are a common sight at night in the lush rolling hills of the Plains. The amount of coins they drop depends on their star rating. Fulings are relatively easy to kill as long as the player maintains awareness of their armor and upgrades. To quickly eliminate multiple Fulings, players can locate one of their villages and use a bow with poison or needle arrows to pick them off from a distance. Each arrow will kill a Fuling with a single shot.
3 Hunt For Beehives
Gathering food in Valheim is essential but can be challenging if players are unsure where to search. While buying a fishing rod early on may seem useful, it can actually drain the player's funds that could be better used for other tools.
Fortunately, beehives offer a solution to this dilemma. These beehives generate one piece of honey every twenty minutes and can store up to four at a time. They serve as a reliable source of food, allowing players to stay well-fed without spending any money. These beehives are commonly found tucked away in the Abandoned Villages scattered throughout the Meadows biome. If players only come across a Queen Bee, they can easily craft a Beehive by combining the Queen with 10 wood at a Crafting Station.
2 Use Portals Effectively
To unlock the Portal recipe, players need to find 1 Fine Wood, Surtling Core, and Greydwarf Eye. Once obtained, players can freely choose where to position their portals, which provides a convenient and efficient way of traversing the map. For efficient coin farming, it is recommended to place one portal near Haldor the Trader and another one close to a base that is already a significant distance away from the spawn point. By doing so, players can continue exploring and storing valuable items in their chests at the base before they become full. Then, they simply need to place the acquired items in their inventory and step into the portal to sell them to Haldor. This method significantly saves time and allows for a rapid accumulation of coins.
1 Seek Out Sunken Crypts
Sunken Crypts in Valheim are essentially like lucrative gold mines, hiding valuable items at every turn. When equipped with a Dverger Circlet, players can collect every single item without leaving anything behind, maximizing their earnings when it comes to selling.
These crypts are exclusive to the Swamp biomes and can be accessed by using the Swamp Key, which is obtained by defeating The Elder, an early-game boss resembling a humanoid tree. Inside the Sunken Crypts, players will come across stacks of treasures rather than just solitary treasures, significantly increasing their potential coin value. It's definitely worth the effort to seek them out.
Valheim is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series S & X, and PC
