Norse Mythology will be depicted in anime form in Netflix's Twilight of the Gods. Zack Snyder recently revealed some thrilling details in an interview. Set to be released in 2019, this original series marks Snyder's debut in the world of anime.
After four years of secrecy, details about the series Twilight of the Gods have finally been revealed in a recent interview with Synder. As we eagerly await a potential release date announcement, here is everything we now know about the show, from its plot and cast to the number of episodes.
Twilight of the Gods plot
Zack Snyder shared that the story would be inspired by Norse mythology.
In an interview published in Collider, he explained, "It’s basically this – there’s a king and his queen in a small Viking village, and they want to get married. An event happens to them at their wedding that causes Sigrid, who is the bride-to-be and the child of giants, to go on a crazy mission of revenge."
The premise seems to align with Snyder's style, as he is known for directing movies like Justice League, 300, Man of Steel, and Sucker Punch, which all feature violent and graphic fight scenes. According to the interview, Twilight of the Gods will be no different.
How many episodes of Twilight of the Gods are there?
He went on to say, "Sigrid gathers a diverse group of individuals - a seer, a dwarf - and they unite to create a team with the sole purpose of locating a deity and engaging in combat with them. It's a quest, a tale of vengeance."
Zack Synder revealed that the anime will have eight episodes.
During the interview, the director delved into the way the animated format allowed him to overcome the limitations of traditional film. He also revealed that creating a small number of episodes presented unexpected difficulties.
"When we made eight episodes of animation, it was definitely a challenge that we didn't fully anticipate," he admitted. "If I had known, I'm not so sure I would have gone ahead with it."
Twilight of the Gods cast and crew
While Zack Synder serves as one of the executive producers of this project, he will not be taking on the role of director. Instead, Jay Oliva, known for his work on several Batman films and Justice League installments, will be spearheading the direction. The animation will be brought to life through the combined efforts of Stone Quarry Animation, KRAKN Animation, and Xilam Animation.
The cast list is as follows:
Sylvia Hoeks as Sigrid

Paterson Joseph as Loki
Rahul Kohli as Egill
Jamie Clayton as The Seid-Kona
Kristofer Hivju as Andvari

When will Twilight of the Gods come out?
There’s no official release date yet for Twilight of the Gods, but it’s expected for late 2024 or early 2025.
Synder was uncertain about the release date of the film on Netflix during the interview. However, his wife and fellow executive producer, Deborah Synder, estimated that it would be released "towards the end of the year," adding, "They haven't set a date yet, but we won't finish it until sometime this summer."
