A potential storyline explored the tragic demise of Foggy Nelson, leading to Matt's retirement as Daredevil. The character of Foggy deserves utmost reverence in the new series.
Daredevil: Born Again has faced numerous obstacles, including a rumored storyline that may not be included in the television adaptation.
Marvel Studios' Daredevil series faced significant production challenges during the 2023 WGA strike. The show experienced extensive delays, and it has been revealed that Marvel Studios had to let go of some writers working on Daredevil: Born Again due to production issues. Rumors are swirling that the production company is revamping its properties, including the highly anticipated series centered around Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox). Alongside these reports, speculation abounds regarding the storylines that were originally planned for Daredevil: Born Again before these changes took place.
As reported by @CanWeGetSomeToast, one of the storylines revolved around the tragic death of Foggy Nelson, played by Elden Henson in the Netflix series. This source revealed that following Foggy's death, Matt would retire as Daredevil, feeling responsible for his friend's demise. Additionally, it was mentioned that Vincent D'Onofrio's character, Kingpin, would become the mayor and leverage his power to discourage street-level vigilantes like Spider-Man from fighting crime.
This information sheds light on the uncertainty surrounding Foggy's role in the new series, as he was initially not intended to be included. Despite the considerable significance of Matt and Foggy's relationship in both the Daredevil comics and the Netflix show, Matt would find himself alone. Foggy serves as Matt's sole connection to a normal life that isn't engulfed in drama. Matt's romantic relationships have been marred by tragedy and loss, similar to his life as Daredevil. Foggy is the constant presence that Matt depends on in his life, providing him stability and support.
Hopefully, with the public spread of this rumor, Foggy will no longer be sidelined or merely used as a plot device in Matt's life of constant mourning. Matt, who can be seen as Marvel's equivalent to Batman, is always surrounded by death and relies on his alter ego to cope. At the very least, the new iteration of Daredevil on television should value the one positive aspect of Matt's existence.
If the goal is to eliminate unsuccessful elements of the Netflix series while staying true to the comic books, then Karen Page (portrayed by Deborah Ann Woll) is readily available. In the comics, her fate has always been one of death, and her contribution to the Netflix series was mostly limited to shaming Matt for his life choices while hypocritically allowing Frank (played by Jon Bernthal) to do as he pleased. While the MCU wants to differentiate itself from the Netflix series, it should not come at the expense of Foggy Nelson. Viewers eagerly await to see how this new adaptation of Daredevil: Born Again will unfold.
