Unveiling the Untold Inspiration for Victor Timely in Loki Season 2

Unveiling the True Inspiration Behind Victor Timely: How This Revelation Could Shape His Arc in Loki Season 2

Warning: SPOILERS lie ahead for Loki season 2, episode 3, "1893"!

Summary

Inspired by real-life inventor Granville Woods, Director Kasra Farahani portrayed Victor Timely in a manner that sheds light on the social obstacles he encounters during the 19th century. Timely's debut in episode 3 demonstrated his dramatic charm and quick-witted nature, which stood in stark contrast to his apprehensive interactions with Ravonna and Miss Minutes.

By centering Timely as a prominent figure who overcame obstacles, there is a potential for him to assume a more active role in assisting Loki and Mobius and expanding the concept of Kang in the Multiverse Saga of the MCU.

Although already based on a Marvel character, director Kasra Farahani has revealed that she and Jonathan Majors sought real-life inspiration for Victor Timely in the creation of Loki season 2. Introduced in episode 3, titled "1893," Kang the Conqueror's variant is portrayed as a brilliant inventor during the 19th century, utilizing deceitful techniques to finance his experiments. In contrast to He Who Remains, Loki and Mobius pursue Timely with the objective of bringing him back to the TVA in order to repair the Temporal Loom and prevent the collapse of the multiverse.

During the exclusive interview with Our website, Farahani discussed the development of Timely for Loki season 2. She shared that herself and Majors drew inspiration from Granville Woods, a real-life inventor, when portraying the Kang variant. They identified several similarities between Woods and Timely, both experiencing social challenges during the 19th century. Farahani explained:

"Jonathan and I also discussed a fascinating historical figure named Granville Woods, who closely mirrors Timely in many ways. He was an African American inventor who lived during the same time period in which Timely would have existed. Woods invented numerous things and constantly faced individuals attempting to steal his patents; even Thomas Edison tried to assert ownership of his patents twice, but failed in court on both occasions. This aspect was important for us to include because if you have a character like Timely in this particular moment in history, they would undoubtedly encounter similar challenges."

What Timely's Real-Life Inspiration Could Mean For His Loki Season 2 Arc

Unveiling the Untold Inspiration for Victor Timely in Loki Season 2

Timely's introduction at the Chicago World's Fair showcases a similar theatricality to Majors' portrayal of He Who Remains in the season 1 finale. He proudly presents an early version of the Temporal Loom on stage. However, behind the scenes, Timely's personality is quicker and more anxious as he converses with Ravonna and nervously interacts with the former TVA Judge and Miss Minutes.

Majors and Farahani drawing inspiration from Woods for Timely's character could have a positive impact on his arc in Loki season 2. By referencing a figure known for both their inventive achievements and their ability to overcome social challenges, Timely may play a more heroic role alongside Loki and Mobius in restoring stability to the TVA.
