CD Projekt Red announced that Phantom Liberty, the expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, has sold over 4.3 million copies since its release on September 26.
The expansion has a 20% attach rate, meaning one in five players who own the base game also have the expansion. The studio is currently developing the Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition, which includes both the base game and expansion in a single package, set to be released on December 5.
The successful launch of Phantom Liberty saw 3 million copies sold in its first week, marking a major turnaround for the studio following the game's troubled release three years ago. The game has earned nominations for Best Narrative and Best Performance for Idris Elba as Solomon Reed at The Game Awards 2023, as well as recognition for best Community Support and Ongoing Game.
However, amidst these achievements, CD Projekt Red unfortunately let go of approximately 10% of its workforce in July, adding to the wave of job cuts that have affected the games industry this year.

As an enthusiastic fan of Cyberpunk 2077, I am thrilled to witness the phenomenal success of its Phantom Liberty expansion. The fact that 20% of players who own the base game have embraced this new content is a testament to the exceptional quality and immersive storytelling that CD Projekt Red has delivered.
The expansion has not only garnered impressive sales figures but has also received critical acclaim, with nominations for prestigious awards. This remarkable turnaround for the studio, following the game's troubled release three years ago, is a testament to their dedication and commitment to improving and expanding the Cyberpunk 2077 experience.
The Ultimate Edition, set to be released on December 5, will provide an excellent opportunity for new players to dive into the world of Cyberpunk 2077 and experience the captivating narrative and thrilling gameplay that has captivated millions of fans.
However, the news of CD Projekt Red letting go of approximately 10% of its workforce in July is disheartening. It serves as a reminder of the challenges and uncertainties that the games industry faces, even for successful studios. Nonetheless, I remain optimistic that CD Projekt Red will continue to build upon the success of Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty, delivering more exciting and unforgettable experiences in the future.
