Coming to theaters on Wednesday, July 12, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One has been receiving significant attention as its stars embark on a global premiere circuit. They have been making appearances in cities like London and Sydney, captivating audiences around the world.
In a recent interview promoting the film, the friends and colleagues of the 61-year-old action star, Cruise, who is reprising his role as super spy Ethan Hunt for the seventh time, were asked about him. Director Christopher McQuarrie took the opportunity to ask Cruise to share the "weirdest story" he had ever heard about himself. And to no surprise, Cruise had a well-prepared answer.
McQuarrie, aged 54, revealed that Cruise shared with him the most peculiar rumor he had come across - that individuals on the set were prohibited from making direct eye contact with Cruise. However, both McQuarrie and Simon Pegg, star of Dead Reckoning, affirm that this rumor about avoiding eye contact is entirely fictional.
"I've managed to unravel the perplexing mythos that shrouds him," shared Pegg, 53, with the Times of London in a recent article. "To some, he's Tom Cruise, the enigmatic movie star whom everyone is curious about. Yet to others, he's simply an ordinary person. I enjoy the simplicity of our interactions."
Pegg shared that his co-star treated them to go-karting and zip-lining during their free time on the set of Dead Reckoning. Pegg described their relationship as uncomplicated and friendly, emphasizing that it has always been effortless. Meeting the person behind the public persona was a unique experience for Pegg, as he realized that it was distinct from the myth and fame surrounding them. Pegg also noted that his co-star thrives on and is motivated by the fame, as it energizes and drives him.
