The Fungle update for Among Us will be released for free on October 24, with a new map, tasks, cosmetics, and a sabotage feature.
The Fungle map, first teased in February 2023, will soon offer new objectives and hazards for players to navigate in Among Us. Despite its popularity on Twitch, Innersloth, the game's developer, intends to continue updating the game beyond the introduction of the Fungle map.
Weeks after announcing the Fungle update for Among Us, Innersloth has confirmed that the new map will be released for free on Tuesday, October 24, at 10:00 AM Pacific time. This upcoming map will transport players to a jungle covered in mushrooms, offering new tasks and opportunities for sabotage. Alongside the release, Among Us VR will also include Fungle-themed hats.
In September, Among Us faced uncertainty due to the controversy surrounding Unity, the game's engine. Innersloth criticized Unity's management for proposing runtime fees, joining other developers in condemning the move. With the recent retirement of Unity's CEO, John Riccitiello, it remains unclear what changes the company will make in response to the controversy. However, Innersloth is currently fully focused on developing Among Us' fifth map.
Starting from Tuesday, October 24, Among Us players will have the opportunity to play on The Fungle through a free update available on PC, mobile, and current consoles. The update will be available for download starting at 10:00 AM Pacific time on that day, so players must ensure that they have installed the update in order to access The Fungle. This new map was first teased on September 14 during the Nintendo Direct broadcast, with an animated trailer that lasted just over one minute. The Fungle will introduce new objectives for players to complete as well as hazards that they can either avoid or take advantage of. Additionally, on the same day the map is released, Among Us VR players will receive new hats to commemorate the launch of the Fungle update.
In June 2023, Among Us celebrated its fifth anniversary with an update and a collaboration with Pusheen that lasted until September. The update brought a fresh appearance to the game's main menu, Pusheen-themed cosmetics for player avatars, and various bug fixes across all platforms. The plans for the Fungle map were initially hinted at in February 2023, when Innersloth shared a roadmap for Among Us on social media. Now, after more than eight months since the roadmap was revealed, Innersloth is finally delivering the fifth map to the game.
Despite fluctuations in popularity since its resurgence in 2020, Among Us remains one of the top indie games on Twitch. Innersloth's future plans for Among Us after the Fungle update are yet to be revealed. Among Us is currently accessible on Android, iOS, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
