Starfield: Skipping the Main Quest Made Possible with New Game Plus

If you're eager to bypass the main quest in Starfield, ensure that you're currently embarking on your New Game Plus playthrough. Our comprehensive NG+ guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to reach this stage, along with valuable insights on the elements that carry over and the extraordinary gadgets that await you.

Repeat or skip the main quest

Head to the Lodge and discover that the atmosphere is filled with equal surprise as yours. The locals, who knew you as the miner from Vectera, are now aware that the person they knew has passed away; it was Vasco who actually recovered the artifact. When you engage in conversation with Sarah, you are presented with a choice:

Repeat main quest: I am eager to join Constellation and venture alongside you in unraveling this intriguing mystery.

The decision is yours to make regarding skipping the main quest. I am not who you believe me to be; I am Starborn, and I possess knowledge about the artifacts.

It is up to you whether you wish to embark on the same journey once more. There are advantages and disadvantages to consider. On one hand, repeating the main quest might undermine the purpose of a NG+ run, as you will be redoing every mission. However, there are intriguing alterations awaiting you this time:

Please rewrite the following content

Despite their differences and occasional arguments, Lisa and Alex are the best of friends.

There are dialogue options related to Starborn that allow you to bypass certain parts of the main quest.

In the initial campaign, specifically a mission named "A High Price to Pay," it is anticipated that one of your companions will perish. However, by replaying the main quest, your understanding of the unfolding events presents a chance to rescue all of your companions.

Skipping the main quest will result in a significant change to the campaign, as explained below. Your character will unintentionally disclose all the details, including information about the deceased companion, which was quite a surprise for Sarah since she died in our previous campaign. One major drawback is the impact on companion romance. The main quests provide opportunities for dialogue that strengthen the bond with companions. Without them, you'll have to rely on side quests, faction quests, and other interactions. However, skipping the main quest does ensure a fresh playthrough.

Another noteworthy issue is that skipping the main quest might have an effect on certain side quests. For instance, we didn't receive the Overdesigned mission from Walter later in our playthrough. As a result, we were unable to obtain the Class-C Kepler R ship for free.

Artifact and power acquisition

If you decide to forgo the main quest in Starfield, you will discover an alternative method of acquiring artifacts: Vladimir will simply provide you with the locations of all the artifacts. That's it. In your quest log, under a mission named "Among the Stars," you will find a list of all the planets you need to visit.

As for unlockable powers, you will retain the ones you have obtained during your initial campaign. However, Vladimir may occasionally inform you about temple locations (referred to as Power From Beyond quests), and you may still receive notifications when you enter new star systems. The difference lies in the possibility of obtaining upgraded versions, such as Parallel Self II or Elemental Pull II.

How to recruit companions if you skip the main quest

In Starfield, skipping the main quest leads to a notable distinction in recruiting companions. Here's a succinct breakdown:

Sarah and Vasco will remain in The Lodge, ensuring a seamless experience.

Barrett is now safe in Vectera, rendering any need for rescue unnecessary. Additionally, Lin and Heller have also made their way over there. In our main campaign, they unexpectedly disappeared, leaving us puzzled. In NG+, they were unresponsive and we couldn't persuade them to join our cause. Uncertainty remains as to whether this issue is related to the previously mentioned glitch.

Initially, Sam and Andreja were inaccessible. Nonetheless, after obtaining all the artifacts noted in the quest log, they emerged at The Lodge. Sam could be found in the bar on the second floor, while Andreja occupied her own room.

Barrett, Lin, and Heller were found in the same area, but only Barrett engaged in dialogue.

Starborn interactions

Lastly, in NG+, there are notable interactions with Starborn. Here are some examples:

Considering that you can easily obtain artifacts by visiting the mentioned planets, the attack in The Lodge will no longer take place.

Upon gathering all the artifacts, your encounter with your former Starborn adversaries will take place in the orbit of Oborum III, rather than docking with the Emissary's vessel.

Furthermore, on Oborum III, you will have the opportunity to align yourself with either the Hunter or the Emissary. This updated scenario replaces the previous interaction at Unearthed/NASA Landmark, as there is no longer a compulsory visit to that location.

The objective of The Revelation final mission remains mostly unchanged. Additionally, we observed that after completing one NG+ playthrough and skipping the main quest once again, the listings and counts for the artifact locations remained unchanged. This suggests that there may be only one variation for all NG+ attempts. However, we did acquire a distinct Starborn Suit (Materia instead of Astra) with improved statistics and different modifications.

The decision of whom to ally with on Oborum III is entirely yours. There is no longer a need to visit NASA. Whether or not you choose to skip the main quest in Starfield is entirely up to you, whether you wish to embark on the campaign again or explore something fresh and different. Lastly, as a Starborn, there is a possibility of encountering the Starborn Trader as you venture among the stars.
