Although Justified: City Primeval season 1, episode 3 had its fair share of surprises, it failed to address the major mysteries of the season. This spin-off series brings back Timothy Olyphant's Raylan Givens, but takes him out of his familiar Appalachian mountains of Kentucky and places him in Detroit. In the first few episodes of Justified: City Primeval, Raylan relentlessly pursues Clement Mansell, known as the "Oklahoma Wildman," while also trying to mend his relationship with his daughter, Willa Givens.

While Justified: City Primeval has the potential to delve into the life of its antihero and answer many questions, it has thus far chosen to focus solely on Mansell's capture. The first two episodes established Mansell as the murderer of Judge Alvin Guy and his assistant Rose, but Raylan was unable to prove his guilt. Mansell's lawyer, Carolyn, also sought to prove his guilt while maintaining the need to represent him fairly. At the end of Justified: City Primeval season 1, episode 2, Raylan violently attacked Mansell in retaliation for threatening Willa.

7 Carolyn Stood Up To Clement But Didn’t Help Raylan

Among the diverse characters in Justified: City Primeval, Carolyn finds herself in the most intricate situation. She holds no inclination to defend Mansell and clarifies that representing him as his lawyer does not imply loyalty. Simultaneously, she declines Raylan's offer to collaborate in bringing down the Oklahoma Wildman. Furthermore, Carolyn is grappling with her own complex financial difficulties resulting from her husband's poor handling of their finances. Consequently, it becomes exceedingly challenging to anticipate her future course of action.

6 Raylan Couldn’t Prove Clement Killed Judge Guy And Rose

Without Carolyn’s help, Raylan couldn't secure any charges against Mansell and his lover Sandy. Raylan tried his best, arranging separate interrogations for the suspects, attempting to incite conflict between them, and even falsely informing Clement, Sandy, and their partner Sweety that one of them had betrayed the others. However, none of them cracked under pressure. In fact, Clement, confident in his ability to elude Raylan, even sang a taunting tune to the protagonist through the one-way glass of the interrogation room. This unsettling provocation may eventually come back to haunt Mansell.

5 Sandy And Clement Attacked Skender

Following their release, Sandy and Clement wasted no time resuming their criminal activities. Their latest target was Skender, a hot dog vendor rumored to be tied to the Albanian mob. Skender had developed strong feelings for Sandy and was planning to propose to her. Exploiting this situation, Clement disguised himself as Sandy’s brother, and the duo invited Skender to a dinner outing. During the conversation, Skender revealed the existence of a secret safe, which sparked Clement and Sandy’s interest. Persuading Skender, they convinced him to unlock the secure container. To their disappointment, the safe contained only a collection of firearms. Overwhelmed with rage, Clement, full of fury, impulsively shot Skender.

4 Who Has Clement’s Gun?

While Sandy and Clement now have access to a vast arsenal of weapons in Justified's revival, this was not the case in earlier episodes. Consequently, it is possible to trace the gun Clement used to commit the murders of Rose and Judge Guy back to him. Sweety is now left holding this crucial piece of evidence and is likely banking on its potential to strike a deal in his favor. This means that Sweetie could evade punishment for his involvement in the killings by betraying his accomplices, but it also puts him at risk of being killed by Clement if the Oklahoma Wildman discovers his plan.

Sandy explicitly cautioned Clement about the Albanian mob's tendency to escalate blood feuds, thus putting the relatively unknown criminal organization in a position to take down the Oklahoma Wildman. Given Raylan Givens' history of employing criminals to neutralize more dangerous criminals, he may even assist the Albanian mob in their quest to find Clement in the upcoming episodes.
