The Diablo 4 community is highly satisfied with the game, but they have identified itemization as its major flaw. Although Diablo 4 offers a vast selection of weapons and armor for each character class, players often end up with an excess of undesired loot, which proves frustrating during endgame activities.
In Diablo 4, weapons and armor are categorized into tiers: Common, Magic, Rare, Legendary, Unique, Sacred, and Ancestral. The type of items dropped is influenced by the player's World Tier, with Tier 4 providing a higher frequency of Ancestral and Unique drops. Unique items are sought after by players for most endgame builds across all classes. Nevertheless, there are only a total of 54 unique items available for the 5 character classes in Diablo 4. Even after considerable hours of grinding higher-tier activities, obtaining these items is not guaranteed, as it solely relies on Random Number Generation (RNG). The community strongly urges Blizzard to promptly address this deficiency in itemization.
Reddit user zenlon pointed out on the Diablo 4 subreddit that although the game is decent, it falls short of greatness due to the lack of rewarding item drops. They cited this as one of the main reasons for player fatigue, as hours of gameplay feel unrewarding. To address this, they suggested that each class should have a larger variety of 50-100+ unique items that offer valuable benefits, rather than just a few. Additionally, they recommended that these items should have balanced stats and reasonable drop rates to avoid a tedious grind. They also mentioned that item levels should determine level requirements in Diablo 4, rather than scaling to player levels, in order to prevent these items from being useless for alternate characters.
The community generally agreed with this sentiment, and also highlighted other issues with the game. User Scottywin expressed frustration over the lack of an item filtering option in Diablo 4. Another user mentioned that the higher level gear obtained from level progression doesn't feel like an upgrade because they don't complement their specific builds.
In addition to these concerns, players have also raised issues such as the limited side quests in Diablo 4 and the irritating repetitiveness of in-game messages. Although not as significant as the problem with itemization, Blizzard must promptly address these problems as they are still issues affecting the players. It is hoped that the developers will recognize these concerns and rectify them in the forthcoming Season 1 of Diablo 4.
Diablo 4 is currently accessible on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
