Nicki Minaj was equally shocked as her fans when she discovered her blue skin appearance on the cover of Vogue in 2012. During an episode of Vogue’s “Life in Looks” on Thursday, December 7, Minaj, 40, reflected on her most memorable fashion moments and admitted that she had no prior knowledge of the drastic makeover for the issue.
"I have something to share with you all," she said as she spoke to the camera. "I didn't actually have blue paint on for this. I didn't realize it until after the book was published." Minaj went on to explain that the color was digitally added by the world renowned photographer Stephen Klein, turning it into an iconic image for her. She expressed her fondness for the look, stating that it remains one of her favorites of all time. "It was very special to me, being photographed for Vogue while wearing Oscar de la Renta."
Minaj has once again found herself out of the loop in the beauty and fashion industry. Similar to last month when her perfume, named Pink Friday 2, launched earlier than expected, she expressed her confusion on social media.
"I had no idea," she wrote in response to a fan who asked if she knew it was being released that day. "I was not informed of this at all. I didn't even receive a link to post. I just woke up one day and boom! Saw everyone discussing it."
She continued by mentioning that an employee from the company "promised to get back to me with answers on this right away. Apparently, she had no clue either. Go figure." On another social media platform, Minaj shared, "I don't even have the official box or bottle yet."
The fragrance was set to launch on Sunday, December 17, coinciding with the release of Minaj's fifth studio album, Pink Friday 2, scheduled for her birthday on Friday, December 8.
In a separate Vogue YouTube video, Minaj discussed her 2022 Met Gala dress.
"Oh no," she exclaimed, gazing at herself in the mirror. "It just occurred to me that something positive has come out of this... It really solidified my decision to have a breast reduction."
For the most important fashion event of the year, she donned a stunning Burberry gown adorned with feathers, a strapless neckline, and a voluminous skirt. Completing the look with an oversized baseball cap and black and silver rhinestones adorning her figure.

"I had a feeling the girls were going to be the center of attention as soon as we stepped out of the room," she recalled, thinking back to preparing for the event.
In her November 2023 Vogue cover story, Minaj revealed, "I recently underwent a breast reduction, and I'm actually thrilled with the results."
