Unveiling the Resurrection of Yi-jae: Deciphering the Enigma of Death’s Game Ending

Yi-jae's final reincarnation becomes the ultimate test in Death's Game, as he must navigate Death's grand scheme to determine his fate: eternal life or damnation

Yi-jae is propelled through a bewildering cycle of 12 reincarnations in Death’s Game, culminating in his final life. However, his fate remains uncertain. In the first part of this beloved K-drama, Yi-jae faces a new tragedy as he is reincarnated as the model Geon-woo. Despite reuniting with his ex-girlfriend Ji-soo, their lives are cut short in a hit-and-run incident involving Tae-woo, defying Yi-jae's hopes for a happy ending.

In Part 2 of Death’s Game, Yi-jae is trapped in the same repetitive cycle, but this time he is determined to seek vengeance. He views his remaining reincarnations as an opportunity to pay back Tae-woo for the murder of Ji-soo, even if Death interferes and thwarts his plans. However, Yi-jae is still obligated to fulfill Death’s deal and undergo all 12 reincarnations. The lingering question is, who will be the final reincarnation, and will Yi-jae be able to escape damnation?

Using his past life experiences, Yi-jae exacts revenge on Tae-woo, ultimately realizing the interconnectedness of his various reincarnations. As he is thrust into the body of a man who died before him years ago, Death forces Yi-jae to reevaluate his ambitions and dreams.

In the finale episode of the K-drama, Yi-jae is reincarnated as his own mother and comes to understand Death’s lesson about the impact of his suicide on others. He witnesses his mother's struggle and suffering after her husband's death, as she continues to persevere for the sake of her son, especially when she learns that Yi-jae was also struggling to find a job. Fans watch as she blames herself for his death while speaking to the police. Yi-jae revisits the mountains with his mother and gets injured on the way back. He wakes up in the hospital and realizes the pain and desperation his mother felt when she lost her son. The ending of Death's Game reveals that Yi-jae lived as his mother for 32 years and peacefully passes away in his last reincarnation. Years later, he begs Death for another chance at life after realizing his mistakes.

Such poetry in his existence - born once in his mother's womb, and born again through her. Then, he had to experience death to truly live once more. Acting, casting, writing, directing - pure brilliance all around. #deathsgame #deathsgameep8 pic.twitter.com/NT0tlCPCJ0
