It appears that Manifest acknowledges the absurdity of Angelina emerging as the primary antagonist of the show. Portrayed by Holly Taylor, Angelina Meyer initially portrayed a troubled young passenger of Flight 828, garnering sympathy due to her challenging family circumstances. However, as season 3 concluded, it became evident that Angelina posed a significant danger to the Lifeboat.
Murdering Grace in the season 3 finale positioned Angelina as the next antagonist for Ben, Michaela, Jared, and the rest of the main characters. However, her role extended beyond that. For months, she proved to be a constant thorn in the side of the passengers, evading capture. Through her acquisition of the Omega Sapphire, Angelina fully embraced her role as the main villain of Manifest. In the second part of season 4, she further increased her body count by orchestrating the deaths of both Captain Daly and Fiona. While it took until the series finale, Angelina ultimately faced the consequences of her actions and failed to escape judgment.
Manifest Admitted Angelina Not Dying Was Ridiculous
An often-criticized aspect of Manifest season 4 part 1 revolved around the excessive protection given to Angelina. These concerns were echoed by the passengers themselves when they discovered that Angelina had not perished during her encounter with Ben at the church, contrary to their beliefs. Michaela expressed her astonishment by likening Angelina to a cockroach, emphasizing how difficult it seemed to eliminate her. Though initially in disbelief, Ben eventually acknowledged, "It is Angelina. Of course she managed to survive." He then questioned, "Is it too much to hope that she would finally be gone for good?"
Ben’s comments shed light on the mounting frustration surrounding Angelina's portrayal as a villain on Manifest. Numerous instances arose where it seemed logical for Angelina to face either death or arrest, yet she consistently managed to evade these outcomes. It was particularly perplexing considering that Angelina lacked any special abilities, talents, or even reliable allies to rely on. It became increasingly difficult to believe that she could continuously evade capture or demise. Even when her plans were thwarted, circumstances always seemed to align in her favor, allowing her to miraculously escape unharmed. The church fire served as just one example of this, while another instance occurred during the altercation at Adrian's safehouse.
The Omega Sapphire Couldn’t Fix Manifest’s Angelina Problem
Having the Omega Sapphire fused to Angelina’s hand gave the show a compelling reason for her to become Manifest’s central antagonist. It added to her sinister nature, as she was able to eliminate Daly and Fiona without exposing herself to any danger. However, as the story progressed, it became clear that the powers of the Omega Sapphire were not enough to resolve the conflict. Despite being captured by Jared and Vance, Angelina managed to escape again, this time eluding Ben's attempt to use Saanvi’s serum on her. In the final episode of Manifest, her plot armor was finally removed, and her character was denied the opportunity to live again in the show's altered reality.
