In the world of the popular light novel and anime series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, the Seven Great Powers are considered the strongest warriors. These formidable combatants emerged after the Second Human-Demon War and are recognized through stone monuments found in areas abundant with mana. The monuments automatically update themselves whenever there are changes in rankings or if a member passes away. Each monument, inscribed with the number "7" in the Fighting God language, showcases the motifs representing each of the Seven Great Powers. While the ranking system may seem rigid, it doesn't always reflect the true combat abilities of newer members compared to those they surpassed. All members of the Seven Great Powers are referred to as "God," highlighting their almost divine strength in comparison to the general population. However, there are anomalies within this system, and its origin remains a mystery, with the first season of the anime offering little insight into its creator.
Created By The Demon God
The creation of the Seven Great Powers is said to be attributed to the Technique God, a prominent figure who holds the highest rank among them. Surprisingly, it is revealed that the Technique God is none other than the Dragon God Laplace, who has been split into two separate entities occupying different positions in the ranks. One half of Laplace, known as the Dragon-side, holds the title of Technique God, while the other half, the Demon-side, is ranked fourth as the Demon God. Rumors suggest that Laplace devised this system to help him find worthy opponents for battle. However, with the Technique God missing, it is virtually impossible for anyone to claim the highest rank for themselves. Over time, the familiarity with the seven titles associated with the system has dwindled, especially due to missing upper-ranked members and frequent swapping of positions among the lower ranks. This has led to doubts about the existence of the Technique God, with some even questioning if he is a mere fabrication. The absence of any individual fitting the description of the Technique God in the centuries following the Laplace War has further fueled these doubts. Consequently, the original form of Laplace as the Demon Dragon King does not have a place within the Seven Great Powers, and his two halves have been assigned separate ranks within the hierarchy.
The Strongest In The World
The members of the Seven Great Powers, starting with the highest rank of Technique God, are known as the Dragon God, the Fighting God, the Demon God, the Death God, The Sword God, and the North God. These individuals have maintained their positions for centuries, if not millennia, and their immense power ensures their invincibility against most opponents in the world of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. This is evident from the very beginning of the story, when Orsted, the first member of the Seven Great Powers, is introduced.
Orsted's overwhelming power is showcased when he is encountered by Rudeus during their journey back to the Fittoa Region. The gap in skill between Orsted and the main trio of Dead End, including the formidable warrior Ruijerd, is glaringly obvious. None of them stand a chance against Orsted, who is the second-strongest warrior in the world. Despite their attempts, all their attacks are futile, and Orsted effortlessly defeats both Eris and Ruijerd without sustaining any injuries. Rudeus himself is left severely injured, and even his most powerful attack at that time, a fireball created through nuclear fusion, is easily countered by Orsted. However, Orsted acknowledges Rudeus' impressive abilities, indicating that there may be more to this hierarchy than meets the eye.
The Hierarchy Behind The System
Despite being designed to recognize the world's strongest individuals, the Seven Great Powers system also highlights a distinct division between the ranks, shedding light on their true significance. The upper ranks consist of the first four positions, while the lower ranks include the remaining three. This stark contrast in power between the two cohorts is evident, particularly when comparing the strength of the fifth-ranked Death God to the fourth-ranked Demon God. The rankings only change when a current member is defeated or deceased, which presents a dilemma concerning the first rank.
The absence of the Technique God, who is neither dead nor known to anyone's whereabouts or status, complicates matters. Consequently, even though Orsted, the Dragon God, is widely regarded as the strongest, surpassing even Laplace's Dragon-side, he cannot ascend to the top position unless the Technique God resurfaces. In essence, these ranks play a crucial role in the intricate world-building of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, setting it apart from other isekai anime that have graced the airwaves in recent years.
