In Koyoharu Gotouge's Demon Slayer, the Infinity Castle serves as the personal sanctuary of the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji. This never-ending fortress, created by the Blood Demon Art of Nakime, exists beyond the confines of space and time, manifesting as a labyrinthine series of rooms, halls, platforms, corridors, and stairs. Muzan summons his most trusted subordinates, the Upper Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki, to the Infinity Castle for important meetings. However, the Lower Ranks are often confounded by the space, as they have little knowledge of its existence. Despite this, the Upper Ranks are quite at home in the Infinity Castle, with some even having dedicated spaces within the fortress. While Muzan does not spend all his time inside the Infinity Castle, it remains his primary base of operations and effective home.
Inside Nakime's Domain
The Infinity Castle appears infinite in size and constantly in flux, as its halls, rooms, and corridors shift at will. Nakime, the creator of the extra-dimensional realm, has the power to manipulate the structure, volume, and spacial relationships of different sections of the castle using her biwa. She is fiercely loyal to Muzan and allows him to use the castle as his personal lair. Nakime's omnipotence is exemplified by her ability to shift the position and location of any demon or individual, close off or open up passages, and create impossible directions for movement throughout the castle. Its lack of a singular source of gravity allows inhabitants to walk on virtually any surface with any orientation, making it an ideal fortress for Muzan.
The Demon King's Stronghold
Muzan has exclusive control over the Infinity Castle, a haven inaccessible to the Demon Slayer Corps, save for himself and Nakime. With Nakime's help, Muzan can teleport himself and others throughout the castle at will, as demonstrated during his dramatic entrance to the Lower Ranks meeting and when he retrieved Gyokko's head during the Upper Ranks meeting. Nakime's teleportation abilities allow her to capture anyone she desires, as evidenced by her ability to instantly transport Muzan's subordinates to the castle's interior. During the final confrontation with the Demon Slayer Corps, Muzan used the castle as a battleground, unleashing swarms of demons under his control to overwhelm the troops.
A Labyrinth Of Horrors
The Infinity Castle is a marvel of spatial manipulation, constantly shifting without any discernible pattern. Its unstable nature forces all inhabitants, save for Muzan and Nakime, to relinquish control and navigate its labyrinthine corridors. The Castle's disregard for the laws of physics allows Nakime to construct and deconstruct impossible structures, including towering halls, sprawling gardens, and seemingly endless chasms. This awe-inspiring space was fully revealed during Akaza's descent towards the Upper Moons' meeting, showcasing one of the most potent Blood Demon Arts in the series. In the final battle against the Demon Slayer Corps, the Castle served as a vital escape for Muzan, highlighting its significance in the story's conclusion. With Ufotable's exceptional animation quality, viewers can anticipate a visually stunning portrayal of this enigmatic space in the upcoming manga adaptations.
