Dead by Daylight's latest DLC update introduces the legendary Xenomorph and the iconic survivor Ellen Ripley from the Alien movie franchise to its ever-expanding Museum of Horror. The Xenomorph, known for its stalking prowess in the Nostromo ship's vents, seamlessly integrates into Dead by Daylight's eerie atmosphere. With its unique set of abilities, the Xenomorph offers players a fresh and distinct gameplay experience.
In an interview with Game Rant, Behaviour Interactive's Creative Director Dave Richard and Dead by Daylight's Game Designer Janick Neveu discussed the Xenomorph's abilities in relation to other killers in the long-running asymmetrical multiplayer game. They also shared how the development team collaborated closely with Disney to bring this iconic monster to life in Dead by Daylight. Richard and Neveu shed light on the new tunnel system, an exclusive ability unique to the Xenomorph, as well as the tools available to Survivors in their battle against the Alien.
Xenomorph Abilities, Tunnel System, And Becoming a Dead By Daylight Killer
Richard explained the collaborative process of adapting the Xenomorph into a killer for Dead by Daylight, working closely with Disney to preserve the character's essence while integrating it seamlessly into the game's universe. He emphasized the importance of incorporating unique game mechanics and elements that the Xenomorph would bring to Dead by Daylight. Additionally, Richard described the Xenomorph as "easy-to-use, hard-to-master," a characteristic the team intentionally implemented to cater to both new and experienced players. One of the core abilities, known as Crawler Mode, allows players to utilize the deadly reach of the Xenomorph's tail, surpassing normal attacks and obstacles. This skill requires practice and precision, presenting itself as a trick shot attack that players can enjoy mastering and improving upon.
Dead By Daylight Ripley And Survivor Abilities Explained
The Xenomorph enhances gameplay through its incorporation of a new tunnel system, as well as the implementation of expertly executed jump scares in the horror genre. Distinguishing itself from other antagonists, the Xenomorph possesses access to a distinct underground network beneath the level, enabling it to swiftly locate and pursue survivors, thus creating spine-chilling moments when unexpectedly emerging from Control Station points to either frighten or strike. Though not as reliant on stealth as other Killers within the game, Richard further emphasizes that the Xenomorph's jump scares are pivotal in embodying the essence of the hunting fantasy central to the Xenomorph experience.Richard described the Xenomorph as the ultimate weapon, highlighting its lethality. To bring balance and provide Survivors with a means to fight back, the team decided to introduce turrets. Although the Xenomorph remains unaffected by the turret's attacks, Neveu referred to them as a constant source of annoyance. This aligns with the principles of Dead by Daylight, where the killer cannot be killed. Furthermore, the inclusion of turrets stays true to the essence of the franchise, where characters like Ripley always possess tools to combat the creatures that threaten them.
In addition to introducing Ellen Ripley as a new Survivor with special perks, the Alien Chapter also brings new gameplay elements and tools such as turrets. Arnold made it clear that "every survivor who encounters the Xenomorph will have access to this gameplay." This means that all Survivors can utilize the new turret, which is a unique Dead by Daylight item associated with the Xenomorph killer. Furthermore, the new Nostromo map offers a specific environmental feature called Steam Pipes.
Dead by Daylight is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
