Genshin Impact 4.0 will introduce the Fontaine nation on August 16.
In the 4.0 version of the game, players will be introduced to three new playable characters: Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet. Each character comes with their own set of distinctive abilities and weapons. Additionally, the update will incorporate exciting elements such as new bosses, an immersive underwater adventure, enhanced loading times and graphics specifically for PlayStation consoles, and various quality-of-life enhancements for all platforms.
HoYoverse has finally unveiled the highly anticipated 4.0 version of Genshin Impact, which introduces the Fontaine nation. The release date has been confirmed and some exciting details about the new content have been revealed. To share this information, HoYoverse hosted an hour-long Genshin Impact 4.0 Special Program event that was live-streamed on YouTube and Twitch.
When Genshin Impact originally launched in September 2020, it featured two expansive nations to explore: Mondstadt and Liyue, taking inspiration from Germany and China respectively. Since then, HoYoverse has been consistently expanding the game with a new region every year, always during the summer. The most recent update introduced the Sumeru region to Genshin Impact's map on August 24, 2022.
Less than a year later, Genshin Impact is set to unveil the Fontaine nation on August 16, confirmed by HoYoverse. The Chinese developer has also shared an extended trailer for the upcoming update, showcasing a blend of gameplay and story cutscenes set in the so-called "Nation of Justice," the dwelling place of Genshin Impact's hydro Archon.
The trailer acts as an introduction to the first three playable characters in version 4.0 of the game: Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet, who coincidentally are all sisters. Lyney, the eldest, is a five-star archer and Pyro user with the ability to utilize fireworks and transform into a Grin-Malkin Cat during battles. Lynette, the middle child, wields a swift four-star Anemo sword and will be the only member of the trio available for recruitment through an upcoming seasonal event, accessible to Genshin Impact players who reach Adventure Rank 25. Freminet, another four-star character, favoring claymores and freezing Cryo attacks in combat.
The 4.0 Special Program event unveiled two new bosses, Icewind Suite and Emperor of Fire and Iron. Icewind Suite is a clockwork-like robot that skillfully evades the player's attacks with its dancing moves, while Emperor of Fire and Iron is a colossal crab that possesses the power to ignite everything nearby with its Pyro abilities.
Not only is the nation of Fontaine, inspired by France, surrounded by water, but the upcoming 4.0 version of the game will also introduce Genshin Impact's very first underwater adventure. Furthermore, HoYoverse disclosed that the forthcoming update will enhance loading times and graphics on PlayStation consoles, and will also introduce various quality-of-life features across all platforms. Although the new region will technically be accessible to players who complete the early-game Mondstadt quests, the developers highly recommend that Genshin Impact players fulfill the story requirements for entering Fontaine.
Genshin Impact is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5, with a Switch port also being in development.
