Guardians of the Galaxy 3 brought an end to the epic trilogy with a captivating and emotionally-charged journey. This time, our interstellar mercenaries were on a mission to rescue one of their own, delving into Rocket's troubled past and unresolved matters. As the story unfolds, we are also taken back to Rocket's origins, witnessing how he transformed into the sentient and clever raccoon we know today. Unbeknownst to many, Rocket's history is entwined with one of the most formidable adversaries the Guardians have ever faced.

However, Rocket was not the only experiment conducted by the enigmatic High Evolutionary. Within batch 89, there were other remarkable creatures, such as Lylla the otter, Floor the rabbit, and Teefs the walrus. Tragically, all members of batch 89 met a grim fate, including Teefs, who had previously made appearances in Marvel comics under a different guise.

Teefs, along with Rocket, Lyla, and numerous others, belonged to Batch 89. Engineered by the High Evolutionary, Teefs was a genetic experiment designed to be the ultimate creature for his new Earth-like world. Despite being a walrus, Teefs had nicknamed himself due to his distinctive tusks. His appearance and personality perfectly aligned with his deep accent. Teefs had modified legs equipped with wheels, allowing him to walk, and possessed mechanical eyelids that could open and close.

Rocket, the final member of Batch 89, was initially welcomed by Teefs. Teefs served as Rocket's first genuine friend and proved to be a gentle giant. Unfortunately, while Rocket managed to escape the High Evolutionary's plan to exterminate them and freed the others, Teefs was unable to recover from the shock. As Lylla came out of the cage and embraced Rocket, she was tragically shot by the High Evolutionary. Filled with fury, Rocket attacked the High Evolutionary, viciously clawing at his face as the remaining members of Batch 89 watched in horror. Teefs pleaded with Rocket to cease his assault, but he and Floor were caught in the crossfire from the guards, resulting in their deaths. Rocket, now the sole survivor, fled the ship in another vessel.

While there isn't a Marvel comics character named Teefs, it is evident that the character is an homage to Walrus from the Guardians of the Galaxy comics. Like in the film, Walrus is depicted as a close friend to Rocket. However, unlike the movie, Walrus remains alive and helps Rocket face his enemies in various situations. Another character from the comics, Lylla, is also alive and shares a deep connection with Rocket.

In the comics, Walrus is portrayed as a middle-aged uncle of Lylla and works as an engineer. Their earliest known adventure dates back to when they teamed up to defend Lylla's toy company during a war. Since then, Walrus has frequently come to Rocket's aid, even joining him in battles against formidable adversaries like Black Jack O'Hare. In the comic book narratives, Teefs is portrayed as a much more active and intelligent creature compared to his film counterpart.
