In Baldur's Gate 3's second Act, players embark on a treacherous journey through the ominous Shadow-Cursed Lands. Along the way, they will not only uncover the region's history but also its well-kept secrets. Providing a haven against the encroaching shadow curse is the Last Light Inn, where the party can seek refuge alongside a few familiar faces from Act 1.
One particular group that may not elicit joyous reactions from players is Mol's gang of Tiefling urchins. In previous encounters, these mischievous individuals may have swindled or robbed the party. However, amidst their dubious activities, the group's vendor, Mattis, offers a peculiar key for sale. This enigmatic item is available to players for the price of 1,000 gold.
Where To Use The Tower-Shaped Key
The Tower-shaped Key, despite appearing to be another scheme from the Tiefling tricksters, serves a dual purpose. It not only grants access to a hidden treasure but also aids in the completion of the Investigate the Selunite Resistance quest. The clue to its matching lock lies in the design of the Tower-shaped Key, which surprisingly belongs to the Reithwin Masons' Guild instead of the Moonrise Towers, as one may expect.
Located to the east of the statue of Ketheric Thorm in the center of Reithwin and to the north of the Tollhouse, the Masons' Guild can be found. While the main floor of the Guild appears deserted, players have two options for their descent into the basement: a trapdoor concealed at the rear of the workshop or an elevator accessible from the second floor. Amidst exploration of the basement, a Keyholed Herald may catch the player's attention. Unlocking it with the Tower-shaped Key will unveil a secret passage. It's worth mentioning that a successful Sleight of Hands check may also pick the Herald's lock, potentially saving players 1,000 gold.
Shadows and Secrets
The Tower-shaped Key unlocks a hidden passage filled with treacherous traps. Players should resist the temptation of the chest positioned halfway through this passage. However, those who successfully navigate the obstacles will find themselves in a spacious room that once served as the secret headquarters for the Selunite resistance against Ketheric Thorm after his conversion to Shar. Now occupied by a group of Shadows, players who are familiar with the Shadow-Cursed Lands will know how to effectively confront these spectral undead.
Delving further into the room beneath the Masons' Guild, players will stumble upon various intriguing texts. These texts shed light on how the Mason family and their allies opposed Ketheric Thorm and his Dark Justiciars. Most notably, the texts reveal that the Masons forged a pact with the powers of Avernus to retaliate against the worshippers of Shar. As a consequence, the battle in Grymforge ensued, and players can witness its aftermath while traversing the Underdark.
Baldur's Gate 3 is available for PC. A PS5 version is set to release on September 6th, and an Xbox Series X/S version is currently in development.
