Dead Island 2, after a long and difficult development process, finally emerged from its prolonged state of limbo. Following a re-introduction in August 2022, prompted by Goat Simulator 3's mockery of its presumed lack of progress, Dead Island 2 was finally released to the public on April 21, 2023. Surprisingly, it was generally well-received.
After nine years of fluctuating expectations, many fans anticipated that Dead Island 2 would be a disappointment upon its eventual release. However, it turned out to be decent. While it didn't exceed expectations, nor is it likely to win any Game Awards, it offered enjoyable gameplay with plenty of gore and gruesome physics, ensuring that the majority of players would be entertained for several hours. Ultimately, this is what most fans desire from the series. The good news for those craving more undead destruction is that Dead Island 2 has plans to launch two significant story DLC expansions.
Dead Island 2's Haus and SOLA Festival Story Expansions Explained
Dead Island 2 has already received two DLC packs in the months following its initial release. The first DLC pack, known as the "Premium Character Packs," offers new outfits for each playable character in the game. While individual character packs can be purchased separately, those who purchased special editions of Dead Island 2 can obtain two outfits for free: the Silver Star Jacob and Cyber Slayer Amy character packs. Additionally, players who have purchased the Expansion Pass will already have access to the Gaelic Queen Dani character pack.
The second DLC pack for Dead Island 2 is called the "Til Dawn" Collection. This pack includes new outfits for the game's survivors, but the main highlight is that these outfits are available completely free of charge. Players can claim these outfits after completing the "Call the Calvary" mission and unlocking the ability to cosplay. Simply opening the storage locker will grant players these complimentary skins.
In addition, Dead Island 2 has partnered with Prime Gaming to introduce a new set of alternate outfits called the "From Dusk" Collection. These outfits will be released gradually throughout the year as part of Prime Gaming's rewards system. The first reward available was a FOMOrian skin for Dani, accompanied by a set of FOMOrian claws. However, on July 13, these will be replaced by another character outfit.
Furthermore, Dead Island 2 has announced the development of two upcoming story DLCs. The first DLC, titled "Haus," centers around a billionaire who has formed his own "techno-death cult" in the aftermath of the apocalypse. Expectations are for Haus to be released in the fourth quarter of 2023, meaning it could launch anytime between October 2023 and February 2024. The second story DLC, "SOLA Festival," is set to be released in the second quarter of 2024. It revolves around a fake environmentally-friendly charity festival in which the LA elite can enjoy themselves while pretending to be proactive about the environment. These descriptions imply that the story DLCs for Dead Island 2 will maintain the same humorous and satirical tone as the main game.
Dead Island 2 is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
