A Guide to Completing The End of the Line Quest in Dead Island 2In Dead Island 2, players are tasked with escaping the zombie-infested Los Angeles. The penultimate main quest, The End of the Line, takes players underground through the Metro station. As they fight their way through hordes of zombies, they must use all their skills to survive and reach the end of the line.
Dead Island 2 The End of the Line Walkthrough
Exploring the End of the Line in Dead Island 2 can be a daunting task for players due to the abundance of environmental puzzles, Apex Zombies, and various challenges that await them. To successfully navigate through this area, it's important for players to adequately prepare themselves beforehand as the journey can be quite lengthy. Fortunately, this walkthrough provides all the necessary information players need to know in order to effectively conquer the End of the Line.
The twenty-third main mission in Dead Island 2 is called The End of the Line. The objective of the mission is to reach Hollywood Boulevard with the help of Sam B, Emma, and Patton. As players exit Patton's underground hideout, they will start the mission by sprinting through a tunnel until they come across the trio waiting by a quarantine door.
Upon interacting with the door, a cutscene ensues where the players are separated from their group and must navigate through an alternate route. Along the way, they encounter a formidable Vicious Butcher Zombie before it chases after the rest of the group. As they backtrack, a door opens and a Burning Walker launches an attack. Defeat the walker and proceed through the door to uncover the first puzzle.
Equalize the Pressure
The room is filled with pressure tanks, water tanks, and pipes that line the walls, spewing out fierce flames that prove to be an obstacle. The objective now changes to Equalize the Pressure, and players must focus on the three vertical tanks located at the back of the room. These tanks require a specific pressure level, which is displayed visibly on their surfaces.
A gas pipe near the pressure tanks leaks gasoline, causing the flames to persist on the floor. The pipes in the room control the pressure, and players have three of them at their disposal to adjust. The first tank requires a pressure of 10 to equalize.
To start, players should target the gas pipe positioned across from the pressure tanks, which is missing a valve wheel. Located on the left side of the entrance, there is a fenced-off area that houses a water valve and the missing valve wheel. Players must crouch to enter the area and retrieve the valve wheel, then exit and place it onto the designated gas valve.
To prevent gasoline from spreading into the room, control the valve by turning it off. In case of fire, use the nearby water pipe to douse the gas and extinguish the flames. After the fire is out, players can proceed to access the fuel pipe labeled 10 to balance the first tank.
To achieve equilibrium among the tanks, the second tank should be set at level 20. This can be done by shutting off the gas valve for the level 10 tank to release the pressure, and then utilizing the gas pipe located across from the pressure tanks to reach the desired level. The last tank will then equalize at level 50.
Regulate the pressure to zero once more by turning the level 20 valve. Proceed to adjust the pressure accurately with the aid of the water valve located within the enclosed area labeled 50. However, be prepared to fight off a pack of Burning Walkers upon equalizing the third tank. Once the threat has been eliminated, proceed to advance further into the Metro by utilizing the door that leads out of the train tunnel.
Go left and enter the train car. However, be prepared to face a horde of Zombies in the next car to move forward. After successfully getting through the second car, head towards the blue light at the end of the tunnel. Take the path on the right which leads to an entry point to the vent systems. Players must navigate through the vents until they come across two stacked fragile boxes and knock them down to proceed. Follow the path to the next area, where the Vicious Butcher from earlier awaits to launch an attack.
Fight the Vicious Butcher
The Vicious Butcher is a formidable foe, surpassing even the strength of the Apex Zombies. Its attacks come in swift, stabbing jabs, and its impenetrable defensive guard requires players to break through before inflicting any damage. Caution is key, as the Butcher's relentless assault can leave players vulnerable and trapped with little hope of escape.
Butchers possess the unique ability to regenerate health by feeding on the corpses around them. However, this leaves them vulnerable to attacks, presenting an opportunity for players to strike. Once the Vicious Butcher is defeated, proceed up the staircase and through the double doors. Continue forward until another set of doors appears on the left, leading to an open area with tracks and train cars. Beware of a horde of Zombies rushing towards players on the right.
Players will encounter several Hazmat Walkers and a Mutated Walker known as the Metro Engineer in this area. Defeating the Metro Engineer will reward players with a useful key. Continue towards the right, following the Metro until reaching an exit door that leads to a secure zone. Within the safe zone, players will find a repair bench, a map, and storage lockers where they can replenish ammo or swap out weapons.
Take the left door upon exiting the safe zone and follow the path until players reach another door where Sam B, Emma, and Patton can be seen fending off a horde of Zombies. This prompts the objective to rendezvous with them further down the Metro line.
Extinguish the Tunnel Flames
Descend from the train's roof and confront the advancing horde of Zombies in the area below. Proceed further into the Metro and come across a wide yet brief tunnel that is engulfed in gas and flames, blocking access to the next train. To progress, gamers can make use of the water jugs outside the tunnel to douse the flames as they make their way forward.
After the flames have subsided, players must remain vigilant as hidden Zombies may come out to attack. Among the most challenging to defeat is the Inferno Crusher, alongside Burning Walkers, Runners, and Firefighter Zombies. It's advisable to target the Runner Zombies first, given their relentless pursuit, before concentrating on the larger enemies. However, it's essential to note that leaving and returning to the area will result in the respawn of all Zombies. Once all the Zombies have been dealt with, players should proceed to the tunnel and enter the train from the back, moving quickly to avoid any burns. Navigating through the train, players should exit on the left and locate the staircase.
Go up the stairs and through the hallways into another tunnel. Then, players will come across a locked door that starts the next objective.
Restore Power to the Door
Players must restore power to the blocked door to continue towards Hollywood. Behind the door, several Hazmat Zombies are waiting, but players can deal with them once it's unlocked. To unlock the door, head back a little ways to the double doors. Once it's open, a Voltaic Screamer will appear.
The Voltaic Screamers emit a high-pitched screech charged with electrical currents, capable of luring in nearby Zombies. To effectively defeat them, players should maintain a safe distance and opt for ranged weapons or explosives. Targeting the head or other critical areas yields the quickest results. Once defeated, players can access the previously blocked door. Inside, a small room awaits, partially fenced off by a faulty power box that creates an electricity trap. Players can use the nearby box stack to climb over the fence and use a curveball or ranged weapon to disable the power box. Afterward, players can jump into the fenced area, retrieve the circuit breaker, and throw it over the fence before climbing back over.
Upon retrieving the circuit breaker, head towards the room illuminated by a red light located across from the entrance. This particular room is flooded with electrical currents, making it impossible to walk across the floor without risking electrocution. To safely navigate this treacherous room, players must utilize the stacked boxes and panels as platforms to jump across to the other side. Be mindful not to drop the circuit breaker while jumping, and consider throwing it across the room first to make the process easier. However, be sure to avoid the water at all costs.
Once you have the circuit breaker in hand, head up the stairs and follow the hallway until you reach the breaker panel that controls the door. Insert the circuit and the doors will open, unleashing a swarm of Hazmat Zombies. Make your way back to the flooded room where a breaker panel had previously ejected its circuit and place the new circuit next to it. This will eliminate the electrical hazard present in the water.
Eliminate the Hazmat-infected Zombies and proceed through the door they emerged from to advance to the next phase of the mission. As you make your way through the train tunnel, you'll encounter a cluster of Zombies, including a Burster that can be utilized to dispatch the others. Stay on the tracks, and it will lead you to an outdoor section with a stationary train.
Power Up the Train
Flip the power lever located next to a lifeless body beside the train to initiate a Zombie assault. The challenge entails braving through four successive waves, each featuring distinct Apex Zombies. The first wave comprises of Runners and Grenade Walkers, the latter posing a risk of explosion that can potentially harm their companions. Players need to be extra cautious while confronting these Zombies.
When facing the second wave, players must be cautious of the Putrified Slobber's acid-spitting attacks. It is important to keep a safe distance and avoid staying in one spot for too long to prevent being hit by its sludge. While Slobbers are slow-moving, players must also dodge the other attacking Zombies, particularly the Spiky Runners, to survive.
The third wave introduces Hazmat Zombies, Bursters, and Caustic-X Walkers that release poisonous gas upon explosion. Players can use the Bursters to their advantage and strategically utilize their explosions to eliminate the other Zombies.
In the final and most intense wave, players will face Inferno Crushers, Firestorm Slobbers, Voltaic Screamers, and Firefighter Zombies rushing towards them. Going into Fury Mode may be the best option to fend off the overwhelming number of enemies.
After all the Zombies are defeated, players can board the train and take it to Hollywood.
Find the Others
The climactic finale of Dead Island 2's The End of the Line involves a daring escape from the train station and a reunion with Emma, Patton, and Sam B. Upon arrival at Hollywood, players must disembark and head towards the platform on their left. A set of dilapidated stairs above a blocked room will come into view, serving as the only means of making an exit. Accessing the room entails circumnavigating it until players discover a small window that offers a glimpse of a heap of delicate crates obstructing the entrance.
To gain access to the room, shoot the boxes with a ranged weapon to open the door. Once inside, players will discover a wealth of resources, but will also encounter a hallway obstructed by electrical hazards. In order to progress, players must locate a Water Pipe that is missing its valve wheel. The valve wheel can be found atop one of the metal lockers, requiring players to jump and retrieve it. Once the valve wheel is replaced, players must deactivate the water flow that is flooding the hallway.
After defeating the Shocking Walker, players must shoot the power box at the end of the hall. This will awaken the Walker and open the path upward out of the train station. On the next level, there will be an exit gate that requires power. To activate it, players must go into the hallway across from the gate and turn on the water valve. This will allow electricity to flow between two broken wires, enabling players to use the lever and raise the gate.
Players must race to the top of the train station while encountering Zombies along the path. With some quick footwork, they can run past the undead. Once they reach the second set of shutters, they must manually hold them open to proceed towards the train station exit. Upon reaching the exit, a cutscene with Emma, Patton, and Sam B will trigger, signaling the end of the mission.
Rewards for completing The End of the Line include 7,500 XP, a short-barreled shotgun, and a new Numen Card.
Dead Island 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
