DC has unveiled the initial glimpse of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, featuring Black Manta seeking vengeance after his previous defeat by Aquaman. The complete trailer is set to debut on September 14, this Thursday.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II returns as Black Manta, determined to take down Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and avenge his father's demise. With determination, Black Manta declares, "I will eliminate Aquaman and obliterate everything he cherishes." The teaser transitions to a blazing house, potentially belonging to Aquaman's father in the first film, as Aquaman arrives at the scene, his face filled with anguish.
The Lost Kingdom introduces us to the formidable character of Black Manta, who possesses the extraordinary Black Trident weapon capable of unleashing a dark and ancient force. Aquaman seeks assistance in his mission to confront Black Manta, and he turns to Orm, his half-brother and former ruler of Atlantis, portrayed by the talented Patrick Wilson.
In their quest, Aquaman and Orm must set aside their differences and unite to safeguard their kingdom, protect Aquaman's loved ones, and ultimately save the world from irreversible devastation. This line from the film's description encapsulates the essence of their challenging journey.
Returning to reprise their roles, Amber Heard portrays Mera, the Queen of Atlantis, and Nicola Kidman takes on the role of the strong and determined Atlanna. Dolph Lundgren also makes a comeback, once again portraying King Nereus, while Randall Park joins the cast as Dr. Stephen Shin.
The highly talented James Wan, who directed the first Aquaman film, comes back to helm The Lost Kingdom. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick has penned the screenplay, which is based on a story by Wan, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, Jason Momoa, and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett.
The Lost Kingdom is set to debut in cinemas on December 20, 2023. Presently, the movie's cast is unable to engage in promotional activities as a result of the ongoing labor strikes within the Hollywood industry. This factor contributed to Warner Bros.' decision to postpone several of its 2023 releases, including Dune: Part II, until 2024.
