During the recent Gamescom Opening Night Live, Activision unveiled the initial mission of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. In this mission, players are assigned the task of rescuing Vladimir Makarov from a prison. Alongside this announcement, Activision also provided further details about the upcoming Call of Duty Next event and Modern Warfare 3's beta. The reboot of Activision's Modern Warfare subseries in 2019 introduced Task Force 141, led by Captain Price and including Soap and Ghost. Additionally, the popular antagonist General Shepherd, featured in 2009's Modern Warfare 2, made a return in last year’s Modern Warfare 2. Reintroducing Vladimir Makarov, an integral character, in the series, Activision showcased his involvement in the game's first mission.

During Gamescom 2023, a 9-minute gameplay trailer showcased the first mission of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, named "Operation 627." The trailer commenced with a cutscene featuring three unidentified Alpha Team operatives leaving a submarine while dressed in full stealth gear, as they prepared to infiltrate a prison complex. Communication indicated the presence of Bravo and Charlie teams providing support. Advancing further, the three operatives scaled the prison wall and quietly dispatched multiple guards, allowing them access to the prison grounds. Shortly after, a massive explosion diverted the guards' attention, enabling Alpha Team to enter the tunnels leading to Makarov. Upon reaching their target, they were observed placing an explosive charge on Makarov's heavily fortified prison door, indicating his potential escape.

As the team progressed through different levels towards Makarov's cell, they disabled the facility's power and donned night-vision goggles to eliminate any obstacles. This particular sequence may provide players with a glimpse of the forthcoming Open Combat Missions in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, giving them the option to approach the gameplay with stealth by operating in darkness, or by employing loud gunfire and explosions to announce their presence. These missions introduce a fresh perspective to the game's campaign, allowing players to utilize various objects, weapons, and vehicles within the mission area to accomplish their objectives.

In addition to fan-favorite foes, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will reintroduce the Slide Cancel and Red Dot minimap functionalities. The game will also showcase a revamped Zombies mode, offering an expansive open-world map where players can form alliances with other squads to battle hordes of the undead.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set to release on November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
