A new promo for the series Riverdale teases the emotional and complex ending. This dark reimagining of the beloved Archie Comics characters, such as Archie, Jughead, Betty, and Veronica, has seen many surprising twists and turns throughout its seven seasons. In the current season, the entire cast was transported to an alternate 1950s version of Riverdale due to a supernatural event. The CW has released an official promo for the series finale, titled "Goodbye, Riverdale." Watch the video below, courtesy of TV Promos.
How Could Riverdale Possibly End?
The teaser begins darkly, as Betty and Jughead pay their respects at a gravesite. The somber atmosphere persists as Betty shares a farewell wave with Veronica, Jughead, and Archie. Just as Archie asks if they're prepared for "one final journey," a series of glimpses into the concluding storylines of other characters, including Kevin Keller (Casey Cott) and Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch), unfolds.
Very little information has been revealed about the highly anticipated Riverdale finale. The contents of this episode, the 20th of the season and 137th overall, have been shrouded in secrecy until its premiere on The CW on August 23. With a series that has consistently delivered sensational plot twists throughout its previous 136 episodes, it is safe to assume that the finale will not disappoint.
The episode benefits from the creators knowing well in advance that it would be the final episode of the series. With the announcement of season 7 as the show's last, the writers had ample time to prepare a satisfying conclusion that resolves any remaining storylines. The upcoming episode appears to use a unique flashback structure, with an elderly version of Betty reminiscing about her final day of senior year in the present day.
Additionally, the Riverdale synopsis hints that the characters' memories of the modern era will be restored in some way. While it's possible for the finale to end with the cast returning to the present day in their current ages, it may primarily take place in the 1950s. Regardless, their restored memories will allow them to tie up loose ends from previous seasons that weren't necessarily part of the time warp storyline in season 7.
