Kraven the Hunter, Spider-Man 2's primary villain, may not be a household name for newer Spider-Man fans. Although he has been a prominent character in the Spider-Man comic books for years, he has yet to make his live-action film debut and was not featured in the 2018 Spider-Man game. However, this is all about to change as Kraven the Hunter is set to be the main antagonist in the upcoming Spider-Man 2 video game and will also star in a live-action film premiering in October, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the lead role. Despite these exciting developments, many casual fans are still unaware of who Kraven the Hunter is, as evidenced by reaction videos on social media after the recent PlayStation Showcase. To prepare for the upcoming showdown, it's important to understand who Kraven the Hunter is and why he is a formidable adversary for Spider-Man.
Who is Kraven the Hunter?
Kraven the Hunter, a formidable Russian big game hunter, is known for his potion-induced strength that allows him to take on super-powered beings, including Spider-Man. Since his debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #15 in 1964, Kraven has become one of Spider-Man's most iconic villains. Although he often battles Spider-Man alone, he was also a founding member of the infamous Sinister Six.
Kraven's most well-known storyline involves his attempt to prove that he could be a better Spider-Man than the real deal. In "Kraven's Last Hunt," he drugs Spider-Man, buries him alive, and takes on his superhero persona. After successfully completing his mission, Kraven sets Spider-Man free and then takes his own life. While it's possible that this storyline will appear in the upcoming Spider-Man 2 game, the Kraven in this game is a younger version who is just arriving in New York.
Kraven is on the hunt for a challenge and decides to make New York City his new hunting grounds after his goons inform him of the concentration of super-powered individuals in the area. He sets his sights on The Lizard, putting him in conflict with both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. While Kraven is the primary villain in the earlier parts of the game, Venom will also be featured in some capacity, with Peter losing his symbiote suit at some point and it combining with someone else to create Venom. The identity of Venom in Spider-Man 2 is still unknown.
It's safe to assume that Spider-Man 2 will feature more of Spider-Man's notorious villains, although fans will have to remain patient to find out who else will make an appearance. Kraven the Hunter takes the spotlight as the primary antagonist, and his actions will eventually bring him face-to-face with The Lizard and Venom. It's also possible that players will have to face off against Miles Morales as Peter Parker, given the influence of the symbiote on the latter's personality. With the success of Doctor Octopus' character, fans can expect an exciting performance from Kraven the Hunter and the other villains in the upcoming open world sequel from Insomniac. Don't miss out on the action as Spider-Man 2 launches this fall for PS5.
