Frostmourne, the cursed blade of the Lich King, has been appearing in unexpected locations in World of Warcraft, catching the attention of players.
In Wrath of the Lich King Classic, this event was only experienced, making it more meaningful for devoted players who valued Frostmourne. The presence of numerous replicas of Frostmourne in locations such as Orgrimmar and Stormwind City could potentially be attributed to a hacker, although the actual reason behind it remains a mystery.
Certain World of Warcraft players have observed multiple appearances of the Lich King's cursed blade, Frostmourne, in unusual locations where it would not normally be found. This unusual phenomenon was limited to Wrath of the Lich King Classic, excluding Dragonflight players from witnessing this peculiar encounter. Nevertheless, one World of Warcraft player took to social media to share their discoveries.
As one of the most iconic villains in the long history of World of Warcraft, the Lich King is renowned for his control over the undead Scourge and his possession of the cursed runeblade known as Frostmourne. While players have never had the opportunity to wield Frostmourne themselves, the Legion expansion allowed Frost Death Knights to acquire and rebuild fragments of Frostmourne into artifact weapons named the Blades of the Fallen Prince. As demonstrated by players of Wrath of the Lich King Classic, Frostmourne continues to hold significance among certain World of Warcraft gamers.
AshWayling, a Twitter user, was playing on the Oceanic server Arugal when he observed multiple copies of Frostmourne falling from the skies above Orgrimmar, the Horde's main capital. These blades could not be interacted with or picked up by players. Wowhead has previously reported similar bugs in World of Warcraft. In 2011, during the Cataclysm expansion, a hacker used modding techniques to spawn the broken Frostmourne after defeating the Lich King in the Icecrown Citadel raid.
Initially reported on the Arugal server in Wrath of the Lich King Classic, another Wowhead user claimed that a similar bug was occurring on the Everlook server in Europe, where the Alliance's main capital, Stormwind City, was targeted. It is unclear whether this recent occurrence involving Frostmourne is the result of hacking, and if anyone will take responsibility for it. As the next Wrath of the Lich King Classic update approaches the public test realm (PTR) in just a few weeks, players can expect to see more official appearances of Frostmourne.
Blizzard will eventually have to consider the controversial fate of World of Warcraft Classic, but before that, players will face the upcoming Icecrown Citadel raid as their next major challenge. Only time will reveal what lies ahead after that.
PC users can currently enjoy World of Warcraft.
