All that is certain is that he came into existence inside the Void World following the demise of the Creator God, without anyone's knowledge. In the distant past, he managed to either eliminate or overthrow the original Human God and assume his identity.
This act initiated a chain of events that would have a significant impact on the universe of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation.
By controlling the First Dragon God and his five Dragon Generals, he orchestrated the destruction of the remaining four worlds. Subsequently, he aided the survivors from these decimated realms in their escape to the Human World.

The intricate and impactful interactions that Hitogami has with different characters in the series are marked by manipulation, deceit, and hidden agendas.
At first, Hitogami appears as a helpful assistant to Rudeus Greyrat, the protagonist who has been reincarnated from Earth after a tragic accident. Gradually, Rudeus begins to rely on Hitogami's advice, believing it to be advantageous.
However, Rudeus' trust is shattered when it is revealed that Hitogami has a sinister plan to kill all of Rudeus' children, including Lara Greyrat, Lily Greyrat, Christina Greyrat, Ars Greyrat, and Sieghardt Saladin Greyrat. This cruel intention stems from a prophecy that predicts Rudeus' descendants will be the ones to ultimately bring about the demise of Hitogami.
After the Mana Calamity event, during which Rudeus and Eris were transported to the Demon Continent, Hitogami made his debut. He urged Rudeus to have faith in and lend support to Ruijerd. Despite Rudeus' initial suspicion, he eventually developed trust in the Man-God as a result of the valuable advice he received. However, it is later revealed that Hitogami has intentions to eliminate everyone beloved by Rudeus.
In a future envision by Hitogami, he sees a collaboration between Orsted and Rudeus' descendants to assassinate him. To avert this outcome, Hitogami warns Rudeus that he will never be left alone unless Orsted is eliminated. After a confrontation, Rudeus decides to join the battle against Hitogami, in return for Orsted's assurance of protecting his family.
Furthermore, Hitogami is the mortal enemy of the Dragon God Orsted, their animosity arising from Hitogami's involvement in the downfall of Orsted's father, the First Dragon God. Despite being confined to the Void World, Hitogami continues to exert his influence, manipulating events and characters from the shadows. He is known for appearing in people's dreams and recruiting them as his "apostles."
