In John Marston's journey, he has the opportunity to wear various outfits. Unlike the sequel, players have to complete specific tasks in order to obtain these garments. One such outfit is the Elegant Suit, which grants players the ability to cheat while engaging in poker games. Fans are required to participate in a round of poker first, in order to unlock the entry for this outfit in John's journal. Early on in the game, poker can be played at either MacFarlane's Ranch or the Armadillo saloon.

Once players acquire it in their journal, they can easily track the location of the Elegant Suit scrap. Fortunately, this particular garment only requires a single piece for completion. Ride eastwards to Thieves' Landing, which can be found to the east of MacFarlane's Ranch. This area, notorious for its gloomy weather, is teeming with undesirable outlaws. In the event that John possesses a high level of honor, NPCs will frequently challenge him to duels, while shop prices will be inflated. The Elegant Suit scrap can be found at the tailor shop, situated next to the gunsmith and below the town doctor. Ensure careful observation of the map, as other icons may obstruct its visibility.

In case the tailor is unavailable in his shop, it is recommended to wait for a few moments as he may arrive shortly. The shop will be closed during nighttime, and if necessary, John can find accommodation at the Thieves' Landing safehouse, which can be purchased for $100. Alternatively, players can venture outside the town and utilize a campsite to rest and pass a few in-game hours. To acquire the Elegant Suit scrap, simply spend $70, and thereafter equip the outfit at any available safe house bed.

To cheat in a poker game, wear the Elegant Suit. In Texas Hold Em, the deck is rotated among players after each hand. Cheating can only be done by John when he is dealing the cards. On the Xbox/PS4, press the Y/Triangle button to initiate cheating. On the Nintendo Switch, use the X button. This action will display a meter on the screen. Carefully keep the cursor in the center of the meter using the left stick. John will discreetly place a card from the deck up his sleeve, which will be shown on the left side of the screen.

As the game continues, pressing the cheat button again enables players to slip the card into their hand. Press the button and tilt the left stick towards either of the two cards that need to be replaced. Balance the meter again, and the hand will be altered. The replaced card will now be concealed in John's sleeve.

Ensure that the cursor remains centered for as long as possible during balancing. If the cursor remains red for an extended period, John risks being discovered cheating by one of the other players in the poker game. Consequently, a duel with that non-player character (NPC) will ensue, ultimately leading to the termination of the poker game.
