Bridgerton season 3 actor Nicolas Coughlan hints at the upcoming challenges his character will face. The popular Netflix series, set in the Regency era, explores the romantic lives of different members of the Bridgerton family each season. When asked about the level of scandal in the new season, Coughlan replied that it was going to be "very" scandalous. She mentioned that Lady Whistledown would face challenges in managing her secrets while also trying to win over her best friend's brother. According to Coughlan, this season would be the most scandalous one yet, with love affairs stirring up scandal in unexpected places.

In the series, the true identity of Lady Whistledown had long remained a mystery to viewers. Portrayed by Julie Andrews, the fictional gossip columnist served as both a narrator and a source of intrigue within the show's universe. With her presence, Lady Whistledown swiftly became an iconic aspect of the series, so much so that she was even parodied in an episode of The Simpsons season 33, where Marge and her friends became obsessed with a show called Tunnelton.

It was only in the season 1 finale of Bridgerton that the author behind Lady Whistledown was finally unveiled as Penelope. Unbeknownst to others, her quiet and unassuming nature allowed her to go unnoticed by high society. Utilizing this to her advantage, Penelope found excitement and purpose in her clandestine double life as Lady Whistledown.
