Pre-'BiP'
Fans first encountered Kufrin on season 22 of The Bachelor. In the finale, Luyendyk Jr. proposed to her, but subsequently ended the engagement and pursued a relationship with runner-up Lauren Burnham. Luyendyk Jr. and Burnham tied the knot in 2019 and have since become parents to daughter Alessi as well as twins Senna and Lux.
Meanwhile, Kufrin herself became the Bachelorette in season 14, which debuted in May 2018. She accepted a proposal from Yrigoyen during the finale, but in September 2020, she confirmed their separation.

June 2021
Arriving on the scene during the seventeenth season of The Bachelorette, Jacobs quickly became a contentious figure among the other contestants, earning the label of a villain. Unfortunately, his intentions were called into question and he was ultimately eliminated by Katie Thurston for supposedly having ulterior motives. On a separate note, Kufrin had little knowledge of the San Diego resident prior to their encounter on Bachelor in Paradise.
“I had only watched, I believe, the initial two episodes of Katie's season — it was prior to his situation taking a turn for the worse," she shared during an October 2021 appearance on the "Talking It Out With Bachelor Nation" podcast. "It was quite a perplexing experience, to say the least, as I was getting to know him authentically on that beach and observing his interactions with everyone, which seemed to be harmonious. However, when I tuned into the show, I couldn't help but think, ‘This isn't the same person I know, what's happening here?’ It truly messed with my perception."

Summer 2021
The Bachelor in Paradise season 7 premiered in August 2021, featuring several new contestants. Among them was the former college athlete who made his debut in the second episode. The show had been filmed earlier in the summer. One week later, Becca Kufrin also joined the Paradise cast. Initially, Jacobs showed interest in Tammy Ly, but soon a connection sparked between him and the Minnesota native.

Summer 2021
Despite their strong chemistry on BiP, Kufrin ended her relationship with her love during the show's finale, which aired in October. At the time, Kufrin expressed her doubts about his sincerity, saying, "I feel like you're incredibly supportive and surprise me in the best ways, but sometimes it feels too good to be true and that scares me. I've been in this situation before, and I can't leave here and be okay with being with someone I don't fully know." Jacobs tried to reassure her by declaring, "Every fiber of my being tells me that I'm falling in love with you," but Kufrin responded, "But I haven't seen any of that."
Following their breakup being televised, ABC announced that the couple had reconciled. "They are now happy and deeply in love," the title card stated at the end of the episode.

Summer 2021
During an appearance on the "Talking It Out With Bachelor Nation" podcast in October 2021, Kufrin revealed that she and her partner spent late nights chatting until the early hours. They would discuss a wide range of topics and enjoyed each other's company immensely. After flying back to Los Angeles and driving down to San Diego, Kufrin vividly remembers the moment she saw her partner again. He greeted her with a warm embrace and a passionate kiss, marking the beginning of their uninterrupted time together to explore the potential of their relationship.
