Unlucky Grand Theft Auto Online Player Attacked While Practicing Snowball Throwing

An innocent snowball practice turned deadly for a Grand Theft Auto Online player who was ambushed by other players dressed as criminal snow monsters.

The World of Grand Theft Auto Online

Rockstar first released GTA Online as an online multiplayer component for its massively successful Grand Theft Auto 5 way back in 2013, and it has served as a captivating sandbox for all manner of virtual hijinks ever since. From alien turf wars to wild mid-heist stunts, Grand Theft Auto Online has provided players with a seemingly endless supply of social media-worthy moments over the past 10 years, which has helped make the long wait for the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 a bit easier for fans of Rockstar’s legendary open-world crime franchise.

Rockstar has also held special holiday-themed events in Grand Theft Auto Online, with the most recent one going live earlier this month. In addition to bringing snow to the virtual world of Los Santos, the newest GTA Online holiday content gave players access to the returning Snowball Launcher, a Candy Cane-shaped melee weapon, and various cosmetic items including a few festive holiday hats and an unlockable Yeti costume to help spread the yuletide spirit while engaging in all manner of criminal GTA Online mayhem.

Of course, in the wild and unpredictable world of Grand Theft Auto Online, even the most innocent and mundane of activities can lead to a potentially violent end, as Reddit user TDIfan241 recently discovered the hard way while playing for the very first time.

The Snowball Ambush

As they explained in a video post on r/gtaonline, TDIfan241 was figuring out how to throw snowballs in-game when they were ambushed by a squad of other players dressed in the unlockable GTA Online Yeti Outfit. These assailants quickly killed TDIfan241’s avatar before climbing back into their purple getaway vehicle and fleeing the scene of their crime.

In the comments section of their Reddit post, TDIfan241 expressed their excitement at this seemingly random encounter, saying that they and their fiancee were left laughing “for a while” afterward. Other users quickly replied with their own wild stories from playing Grand Theft Auto Online, with one in particular claiming that they encountered the same gang of Yetis that TDIfan241 did a day prior. Another said that they came across them as well, only they were driving a white Charger instead of the purple vehicle shown in TDIfan241’s video.

The Unpredictability of Grand Theft Auto Online

As mentioned before, Grand Theft Auto Online’s open-world structure allows for all kinds of fun antics and conversation-sparking moments, and this will likely increase thanks to a spike in GTA sales brought on by the recent reveal of Grand Theft Auto 6. TDIfan241’s holiday-flavored introduction to the game is just such a moment, proving that in Los Santos, even something as simple as throwing a snowball at the wrong car could lead to unwanted trouble from a gang of criminal snow monsters.
