Rewritten:
Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy offer distinct gameplay experiences. Elden Ring is a challenging journey through a dark and oppressive fantasy world, with a focus on melee combat. Hogwarts Legacy, on the other hand, is a lighthearted and magical adventure set in a nostalgic location, with spell-based combat and exploration at its core.
Despite these differences, there are similarities between the two games. Both feature third-person perspectives and prioritize open-world exploration. Additionally, both games incorporate magic spells into their gameplay. However, as Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy continue to develop, their use of magic may become even more similar.
Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy's DLC Might Be in the Same Boat With Their Spells
FromSoftware's past games have been criticized for their lack of compelling magic combat options, with offensive spells feeling weak and redundant compared to melee options. However, Elden Ring addresses this issue with an impressive lineup of 171 magical spells, including both Incantations and Sorceries - a staggering number compared to Skyrim's 96 spells. What sets Elden Ring's spells apart is not only their quantity, but also their quality. While some are upgraded versions of base spells, each one boasts visually-impressive animations and effects, making them all viable options for players to choose from.
With Elden Ring's upcoming DLC expansion, titled Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, set to be the biggest DLC that FromSoftware has ever produced, fans are anticipating a plethora of new spells to be added to the game. However, with 171 spells already available, there is concern that the DLC may not bring anything truly new to the table. On the other hand, while Hogwarts Legacy only has 31 spells, each one has been crafted with unique visuals, animations, and effects, making them feel truly distinct and worthwhile. From offensive spells like Stupefy and Flipendo to utility charms such as Lumos and Reparo, Hogwarts Legacy's current spells cover all the essentials needed in a Harry Potter game, even including all three Unforgivable Curses.
There may be some anticipation for new spells to be added to Hogwarts Legacy through future DLC, similar to Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree, but it is questionable if they are truly necessary. Despite fans' desires to see classic spells like Expecto Patronum, Reducto, and Confundo incorporated into the game, the current spell selection already covers all the technical and gameplay aspects required. As a result, it may be difficult for any new DLC spells to make a significant impact and differentiate themselves from the existing list, much like Elden Ring.
