After numerous delays and production issues, Ubisoft has finally announced plans to offer a closed Beta version of Skull and Bones, their long-awaited pirate video game. However, players hoping to get their hands on the Beta version will be disappointed to learn that it will only be available on PC, not on home consoles. Originally announced in 2017, Skull and Bones began as an Assassin's Creed 4 DLC project before evolving into a new IP, undergoing multiple changes along the way. Despite its rocky development, fans eagerly await the chance to play the earliest version of the game, even if it means sticking to PC for now.
Ubisoft Forward recently confirmed that Skull and Bones Beta plans were in place. However, Insider Gaming reported that the Beta will only be available on PC and not on consoles. Although close Beta signups were previously available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on the website, Ubisoft has since removed them, further solidifying the report's credibility. In addition, a developer on the game has clarified that the Beta was never intended for consoles.
Ubisoft has faced a number of delays with Skull and Bones, including the cancellation of three unannounced projects. The game has been delayed six times, with the most recent delay occurring in January of this year. While the company has stated that the game will be released sometime in the 2023/2024 fiscal year, they have not provided a more specific release window. Despite these setbacks, Ubisoft has other projects that are moving forward, such as Star Wars Outlaws, The Lost Crown, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Assassin's Creed Mirage. It remains to be seen how the upcoming closed Beta for Skull and Bones will be received and what impact it will have on the game's eventual release.
Skull and Bones is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
