Since its initial announcement in June, this highly anticipated remake has promised a comprehensive overhaul of the original Persona 3, incorporating numerous quality-of-life enhancements and incorporating features in line with Atlus' recent acclaimed releases, specifically Persona 5. The developer has been transparent in providing fans with extensive details regarding the essence and improvements of this forthcoming remake.
The remake of Persona 3 has been unveiling updates in regular intervals, including gameplay showcases and interviews. Atlus has promised to release these updates with every full moon, happening approximately once a month. Although July's full moon has already passed, fans got a glimpse of Persona 3 Reload during the Bilibili China-exclusive "High Energy Game Fest" digital event. This event showcased beloved members of the SEES party that players will encounter in the game.
The gameplay trailer highlights Junpei, Akihiko, and the protagonist exploring Tartarus, where they meet Fuuka Yamigishi, who will become the Navigator for SEES. It also reveals scenes where the player can interact with a girl outside of school, likely as part of her social link. Additionally, cutscenes from the game's story are featured, including the introduction of Mitsuru Kirijo and her rescue of the inexperienced members in Tartarus on her bike.
In the second half, Akihiko Sanada, another senior member of SEES, is seen supporting his teammates as they explore Tartarus. The scene transitions into a brief battle, with Akihiko summoning his Persona Polydeuces, and showcases the game's revamped UI. The trailer concludes with the new victory screen, featuring all four party members walking out of battle, with the protagonist who landed the final blow at the center. Fans were pleased with the stylish design of this screen, reminiscent of Persona 5's All-Out Attack splash art victory screen.
After watching the trailer, Faz, a YouTuber who focuses on JRPGs, predicts how the music will likely sound after being rearranged. In a livestream clip from the event, he recognizes that the arranged version is based on the song "Afternoon Break," which is commonly heard during social events in the original Persona 3 game.
Persona 3 Reload is coming in early 2024 to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
