A newly discovered domain registration has led to speculation that Atlus may be planning yet another spinoff of the popular game Persona 5. This news comes just a few months after a similar move hinted at the long-awaited arrival of a remastered version of Persona 3.
Following the success of Persona 5, Atlus released the rhythm game Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight in 2018 for both the PS4 and PS Vita. The company's P-Studio division then teamed up with Omega Force to create Persona 5 Strikers, an action-packed RPG in the style of Omega's Dynasty Warrior games. Released for PC, PS4, and the Switch, Persona 5 Strikers received high praise from critics in 2021.
It seems that Atlus may be expanding the Persona 5 universe with a new game in the works, as indicated by the recent registration of the P5T.jp domain on May 16th. While the ownership of the domain remains undisclosed, this is a common practice for Atlus in recent years. Their marketing partner, Ryu's Office, has been concealing domain registrations since late 2021, when it was accidentally revealed that Persona 5 Royal and its spinoffs were in development, along with other titles.
However, it's possible that the P5T domain was registered as a defensive measure to safeguard Atlus' trademarks and prevent infringement from copycats. This wouldn't be the first time that Atlus has registered Japanese domains related to Persona 5, such as P5B, P5U, and P5M, without utilizing them since 2018.
Another possible explanation for the P5T domain is that it could be connected to Black Wings' upcoming mobile game Persona 5: The Phantom X. As the game is a turn-based strategy title and P5X.jp is not yet a registered domain as of May 24, Atlus may opt to promote the game under a different name in Japan, such as "Persona 5 Tactics." Black Wings recently concluded the first beta test for the mobile game in early April, which aligns with the possibility of Persona 5: The Phantom X being released soon.
There is anticipation for more news related to the Persona franchise in the near future. Several reports suggest that Atlus and Sega will be announcing the Persona 3 remake during the upcoming Xbox Showcase event on June 11. While Sony has its own PlayStation Showcase scheduled for May 24, it remains unclear if Atlus will be participating in that broadcast.
